Tamil Nadu Multiplex association boycotted The Kerala Storyfilm

Director Sudipto Sen’s controversial film, The Kerala Story, hit the screens on Friday. On its release, the film surprisingly received poor reviews from the Bollywood critics, but the film seems to have impressed the audience, as it is proved by the good start it got at the box office. However, the movie was not screened in Kerala despite the high court to stay the release of the movie.

Now today, the movie has been boycotted by the Tamil Nadu Multiplex Association. The Tamil Media handles officially reported that TMA has announced it will stop the screening of The Kerala Story from today (Sunday) all over Tamil Nadu. The Association has cited potential law and order issues and lack of reception from the general public as reasons for the move.

Earlier, The Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) in Tamil Nadu on Saturday staged a protest against the release of the controversial film ‘The Kerala Story’ in Chennai. The Naam Tamilar Party cadres headed by its organizer, actor, and director Seeman started protests in the Chennai Anna Nagar Arch near Skywalk Mall in Chennai against the movie, which was released in the cinema halls on May 5.

Moreover, Manithaneya Makkal Katchi president and MLA M.H. Jawahirullah on Thursday urged the Tamil Nadu government to ban the film The Kerala Story. In a statement, he said the movie makes baseless claims and alleged that it was made with a motive to insult a particular religion and a political ideology. He demanded that the State Government should ban the movie and other such films that are made with the motive of creating panic.

Starring Adah Sharma, Yogita Bihani, Siddhi Idnani and Sonia Balani, The Kerala Story was earlier officially described as the story of more than 32,000 Kerala women who have been allegedly been radicalized by Islamic fundamentalists. However, the number was changed to three from 32,000 after protests spread online stating that misinformation was being spread by the makers.

The Kerala Story movie revolves around Shalini Unnikrishnan (Adah Sharma), Nimah (Yogita Bihani), and Siddhi Idnani (Geetanjali), who share their room with Asifa (Sonia Balani) in a nursing college in Kasargod, Kerala. Asifa, who is an aide to ISIS, how indoctrinates and brainwashes the three girls and converts them to Islam and what happens to them is the main crux of the movie.
