South Indian movies are unable to reach 1000Cr without Hindi support. Suppose we see the recent Hindi blockbusters like Pathaan and Jawan. In that case, we can indeed say that Bollywood movies have the potential to reach 1000Cr alone with the Hindi language, and its films do not need other languages’ support, but for South Indian movies, be it Tollywood, Kollywood or other markets must need Hindi support. That is why South Indian films are unable to reach 1000Cr without Hindi support.
With Hindi support, films like Baahubali 2, KGF 2, and RRR have joined the 1000Cr club. The recent big hits from South Indian Cinema, Thalapathy Vijay’s Leo and Superstar Rajinikanth’s Jailer, prove that Kollywood also cannot achieve the feat without the Hindi version because both movies have done very well in the South Indian market. Still, they were not even able to cross 700Cr.
The same goes with Tollywood as a film like Baahubali 2, which has created records in all states, has yet to cross 1000Cr without a Hindi version; for KGF 2, nearly half of the revenue came from Hindi. Looking at this, the South trade circles feel that South Indian movies are unable to reach 1000Cr without Hindi support.
