Small Movies Choosing Direct OTT Release Because Of Producer’s Council

Ever since the introduction of COVID-19 into the movie business, it has only wreaked havoc for all parties. It led to theatres being shut down for a long time. Once they were opened, occupancy restrictions were imposed in all major cities.

This led to the drastic shift of Indian audiences from theatre to OTT. The OTT services offered a plethora of choices to choose from him which could be watched in the comfort of your home. This in turn led to a number of films releasing on OTT after a short theatrical run.

When movies are failing on the big screens, the makers immediately release the movie on OTT. The goal is to recover the losses from the theatrical run by making money on the OTT level.

But recently, the Telugu Producers Council has made a rule that there should be a minimum gap of 6 weeks between a theatrical release and an OTT release. In view of this rule, many small films are opting for a direct OTT release by skipping the theatres. Only time will tell if this rule will bear fruit.
