It is widely known that Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki and Salaar are clashing on this year’s Christmas Weekend. However, Dunki announced the preponed release date this evening and disclosed that it is coming on 21st December. Now Salaar is also expected to do the same as no one wants to give a solo release for another film in competition and to share the screens from the next day.
Now Salaar is expected to prepone the release date as well. Definitely, it will add one more day for the weekend as it will be released on Thursday, with Christmas arriving on Monday. The movie will have a 5-day-long weekend.
When Shah Rukh Khan announced Dunki’s preponed release date, everyone thought this was a brilliant move regarding screen allocation, as launching before Salaar gives SRK’s Dunki an advantage against Salaar regarding screen and show count. The premium screens will go to Dunki because it was the first to arrive – in other words, Dunki will have a first-mover advantage in terms of screen selection over Salaar.
It’s a well-thought-out move. Regarding the odd release date of Thursday, SRK today may turn a typical working Thursday into a national holiday – such is his mania in today’s time. We need to see whether Salaar will be released on December 21st.
