Ranveer Singh, who recently delivered a massive blockbuster with Dhurandhar 2, is now ready to issue a formal apology following a controversy that hurt the religious sentiments of the Kannada community regarding Chamundi Daiva, a revered deity.

The Controversial Comment

During promotional activities for Dhurandhar, Ranveer Singh participated in an event at the Goa International Film Festival. While praising Rishab Shetty’s powerful performance in Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1, the actor imitated a scene from the film and referred to the goddess as a “female ghost.”

This comment triggered significant backlash from Kannada audiences and cultural groups who deemed it disrespectful to the sacred Daiva tradition. The Bengaluru police subsequently filed an FIR against Ranveer Singh, alleging that his remarks hurt religious sentiments.

Legal Developments and Apology Plan

In response to the growing criticism, Ranveer Singh approached the Karnataka High Court seeking dismissal of the FIR. The case was heard today, with both parties presenting their arguments.

Ranveer’s legal team informed the court that he will file a formal affidavit offering an unconditional apology on April 10, 2026. To demonstrate genuine remorse, the actor has also agreed to personally visit the Chamundi Hill Temple in Mysuru to seek forgiveness from the deity and the community.

Following a hearing on March 24, 2026, the Karnataka High Court emphasized that public figures must exercise responsibility and accountability. The court noted that an “online apology” issued through managers was insufficient given the seriousness of the offense.

Box Office Success Amid Controversy

Despite the controversy, Dhurandhar continues its remarkable box office run, having crossed the ₹500 crore milestone in India. The film’s commercial success demonstrates Ranveer Singh’s strong fan base, though the actor now faces the responsibility of addressing the cultural sensitivities he inadvertently violated.
