Ranbir Kapoor is enjoying a successful theatrical run with his latest release, Ramayana: Part 1. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the epic opened to positive audience feedback and impressive box-office numbers. The film collected ₹75.99 Cr on its opening day, putting it on course for a major commercial success. Amid the celebrations, Ranbir has revealed an interesting ambition that could eventually take his career in an entirely different direction.
In a recent interview with Sai Pallavi for BBC Asian Network, the actor revealed that he has already started writing a script for his directorial debut. Ranbir admitted that writing a screenplay is considerably more challenging than he initially imagined and expressed immense respect for writers and filmmakers. Although he hasn’t settled on a particular genre, he hopes to make a feel-good family drama inspired by films such as Life Is Beautiful and the works of Rajkumar Hirani. Interestingly, he has no plans to act in his directorial venture.
Before making the transition, Ranbir wants to complete his existing commitments. His upcoming projects include Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love & War, Animal Park, Brahmastra 2 and Ramayana: Part 2. The actor hopes to complete these films and begin shooting his directorial debut within the next two to three years. He has also described the coming decade as potentially his last as an actor playing demanding lead roles.
