The ticket pricing issue has taken an interesting turn with Ram Gopal Varma making sensational comments on AP Government and its policies. In a live debate conducted on a TV channel, the maverick director made some striking points on the issue.

RGV said that he studied the entire Cinematography act in detail and that it wasn’t mentioned in any place that the government can control the ticket prices. ‘You do not have any right to change ticket prices as per will,” said the director.

Responding to the same Perni Nani said that their government is the people’s government. “If not the government, the court can give directives to fix the prices and that’s what they are following. The court itself stated that Joint Collector’s permission is needed. We have been directed to set up a committee and include all stakeholders and again decide on the prices. We are in the same process at the moment,” said the minister.

Perni Nani also questioned the filmmakers on why do they not return the money in case it fails as it is also a commodity for which viewers pay a ticket to watch.

Responding to this statement, RGV said that a cinema is not a perishable good. “By that logic, can the consumer return the cinema he just viewed for the sake of return of money?” questioned the director.

Ram Gopal Varma concluded that the government has every right to seize the theatres in case of theatre managements shortcomings. However, no government has any right to fix the ticket prices.

Overall, the debate saw RGV make some excellent points to which Perni Nani had no response.
