August witnessed a box-office bonanza for the multiplexes like PVR-INOX as well as several single-screen theatres across the country. The month saw monstrous hits from Kollywood and Bollywood with Jailer, Gadar2, and Oh My God 2 bringing great profits for the trade circles.
While Rajinikanth’s Jailer emerged as a Kollywood industry hit, Gadar2 became the most successful film in Sunny Deol’s 4-decade-long career. Even Akshay Kumar’r Oh My God emerged as a massive hit much to everyone’s surprise despite competition.
The biggest beneficiary of this blockbuster parade was PVR-INOX chain which witnessed a whopping Rs 532 crores of business. As per reports, the multiplex chain witnessed a footfall of 1.9 crores which is an all-time record for the chain. Apart from the above three films, the new Bollywood release Dream Girl 2 also performed well leading to great profits for the multiplex giant. July releases such as Oppenheimer and Rocky and Rani Ki Prem Kahani also contributed well to these numbers.
August 11-13 weekend contributed majorly to this record with crowds docking to catch Rajinikanth, Sunny Deol, and Akshay Kumar. This was the busiest weekend in the history of Indian box-office trade.
