Prime Video is launching advertisements. Amazon announced in September that ads would be included in Prime Video’s entertainment content. A date is now available for the commencement of advertisements in Prime Video Platform.
Starting on January 29, commercials will be introduced to series and movies that are aired on the service in the U.S., UK, Germany, and Canada. France, Italy, Spain, Mexico, and Australia will join later this year. The announcement that Prime Video is launching advertisements will not please the viewers.
In a letter sent to subscribers, the service announced that they would be adding limited advertisements to allow them to continue investing in compelling content and increase their investment over an extended period of time.
“We aim to have meaningfully fewer ads than linear TV and other streaming TV providers. No action is required from you, and there is no change to the current price of your Prime membership,” the company wrote. Customers can opt to pay an additional $2.99 per month to continue avoiding advertisements.
