Ponniyin Selvan 1 was released on September 30th, touted as the dream project of the legendary director Maniratnam, made on a grand scale. The movie received a monumental reception from the Tamil fraternity all over the world, which helped the film reach new heights at the box office. The release of Ponniyin Selvan 2 is expected to occur in the summer of 2023, according to the earlier reports.
The first part of Ponniyin Selvan, celebrated as a Pride film of Kollywood, opened to excellent reviews and collected huge numbers at the box office. The film has also become an industry hit in Tamil and the first film to collect 400 Crores gross from only Tamil language and overall, it has collected more than 500 Crores worldwide.
It is now the highest-grossing Tamil movie of 2022, the fourth-highest Tamil movie ever, and the fifteenth-highest Indian movie ever. It is being reported that the makers are planning to release the sequel of Ponniyin Selvan on April 14th or April 28th 2023, during the Tamil New Year season.
After the ocean battle with Chola’s vicious enemies, the big epic period was brought to a close by the great hype and intrigue surrounding the plot about Aishwarya Rai’s dual role and the mystery that Arul Mozhi Varman (Jayam Ravi) and Vandiya Devan (Karthi) are alive or not.
The sequel will undoubtedly be a much bigger hit given the level of hype surrounding the first part. As per the sources, the final release date of the sequel will be announced by the makers within a month.
The five-chapter novel “Ponniyin Selvan,” written by Kalki Krishnamoorthy in 1955, serves as the basis for the plot of the movie. Ponniyin Selvan’s two parts were written by Elango Kumaravel and B. Jeyamohan. Mani Ratnam and Subaskaran Allirajah produced the movie through Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions respectively.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha, Jayaram, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prabhu, R. Sarathkumar, Vikram Prabhu, Prakash Raj, Rahman, and R. Parthiban, are among the ensemble cast members of the film series. A. R. Rahman composed the music, Ravi Varman shot the movie, A. Sreekar Prasad edited it, and Thota Tharani handled the production design.
