Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus is finally open for public viewing after years of waiting. The film opened to mixed reviews from the audience where the Tamil Nadu crowd loved the movie and the rest of India have mixed feelings.

However, keeping the reception aside, Ponniyin Selvan opened to record-breaking numbers on the first day at the box office. The film collected a whopping 75 crores for the Tamil version all over India which is the highest, breaking Thalapathy Vijay’s Beast.

After an excellent opening day, the Day 2 collections also look great. The collections for the Tamil version in Tamil Nadu are almost 90 percent of the Day 1 collections. In Kerala and Karnataka, the film is trending better than the Day 1 collections. This is the same with the overseas report of the film. Ponniyin Selvan has posted a record opening overseas.

It stars Aishwarya Rai, Chiyaan Vikram, Karthi, Trisha, Jayam Ravi, Jayaram, Aishwarya Lekshmi, and Sobhita Dhulipala among others.
