The trailer of Ponniyin Selvan 2, the long-awaited second installment of Mani Ratnam’s Magnum opus, was released last night at a great trailer launch event in Chennai. The Tamil audience and industry circle media groups were eagerly waiting for the launch of the trailer.
It is very well known to everyone that the first part of Ponniyin Selvan was liked by the Tamil people only and that’s the reason the movie had under performed in other languages and now the trailer of the 2nd part has also given the same feel.
The audience felt bore after watching the trailer, and they found it difficult to complete the full trailer because it tests the patience as it goes with no highs and as said above, even this part of Ponniyin Selvan also looks targeted at the Tamil audience only.
Ponniyin Selvan is based on the famous novel by Kalki Krishnamurthy about the life of Raja Raja Chozhan. With a screenplay written by Mani Ratnam, Jeyamohan and Kumaravel, the first film, set in the 10th century, showed how a power struggle between different branches of the ruling Chola family started causing violent rifts. The second film is expected to further dug deeper into the story, with narration showing how the Cholas became the most affluent and powerful empire on the continent and one of the most successful and long reigning in history.
The film comprises a huge star cast that includes Vikram, Karthi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha, and Jayam Ravi. Ashwin Kakumanu, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Sarath Kumar, Prabhu, Vikram Prabhu, Jayaram, Prakash Raj, Parthiban, Lal, and Mohan Raman are also part of the cast.
The music of the film is scored by AR Rahman, and the cinematography has been handled by Ravi Varman, editing by Sreekar Prasad, production design by Thotta Tharani, dialogues by Jeyamohan, costumes by Eka Lakhani, make-up by Vikram Gaikwad, and choreography by Brinda.
