The Second Part of Mani Ratnam’s Magnum Opus Ponniyin Selvan was released in the theaters on Friday and received a good response from the audience, critics also raved about Mani Ratnam’s classy and technically rich narration. The film opened with a nationwide collection of Rs 28 crores and saw an upwards trend on the second day, and it crossed the magical 100 crores mark in 2 days itself.
The film, though a bit under performed on day, the numbers raised on day 2 and the trade circles are expecting it to continue the good run at the box office. The film’s Telugu version also seen good numbers as the second day registered more collections than the opening day. Ponniyin Selvan 2 received a good talk and it’s competitor in Telugu, Agent becoming a disaster, has helped the movie to bring anything audience to the theaters.
The story of Ponniyin Selvan 2 explores the past love story between Aditha Karikalan and Nandini, how they were separated and what made Nandini to seek vengeance on Chola Kingdom. The narrative also follows Arunmozhi Varman’s rise as the renowned emperor Rajaraja Chola.
The film comprises a huge star cast that includes Vikram, Karthi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha, and Jayam Ravi. Ashwin Kakumanu, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Sarath Kumar, Prabhu, Vikram Prabhu, Jayaram, Prakash Raj, Parthiban, Lal, and Mohan Raman are also part of the cast. The movie is Produced by Madras Talkies in association with Lyca Productions.
The music of the film is scored by AR Rahman, and the cinematography has been handled by Ravi Varman, editing by Sreekar Prasad, production design by Thotta Tharani, dialogues by Jeyamohan, costumes by Eka Lakhani, make-up by Vikram Gaikwad, and choreography by Brinda.
