Mani Ratnam’s dream project, Ponniyin Selvan’s part 2 was released in the theaters on last weekend and received a good response from the audience and critics as well. The audience liked it better than part 1 because this sequel had more emotional connect. The film, however, failed to capitalize the good talk into excellent numbers at the box office. The film had a fairly good enough first weekend, but the numbers are lesser than the first part in all areas, which is quite surprising.
Baahubali 2, the nationwide trended sequel which was released 6 Years back had opened at the box office with around 220 Crores Gross and set a new benchmark which was broken by RRR with a little margin. If we remember at the time of Ponniyin Selvan first part’s release, many of the Tamil audience had a fight with the Telugu audience by saying Ponniyin Selvan is bigger than Baahubali. But now they should understand the reality by seeing the box office numbers because Ponniyin Selvan 2 has collected around 220 Crores Gross in 5 days, which is equal to Baahubali 2 opening day collections. This proves Ponniyin Selvan is nowhere near to the Epic Baahubali.
Ponniyin Selvan 2 comprises a huge star cast that includes Vikram, Karthi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha, and Jayam Ravi. Ashwin Kakumanu, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Sarath Kumar, Prabhu, Vikram Prabhu, Jayaram, Prakash Raj, Parthiban, Lal, Rahman, Nazar, Kishore and Mohan Raman are also part of the cast. The movie is Produced by Madras Talkies in association with Lyca Productions.
The music of the film is scored by AR Rahman which received a tremendous response, and the cinematography has been handled by Ravi Varman, editing by Sreekar Prasad, production design by Thotta Tharani, dialogues by Jeyamohan, costumes by Eka Lakhani, make-up by Vikram Gaikwad, and choreography by Brinda.
