Panja Vaishnav Tej, the most recent hero of the’mega’ family, has made his dream debut with the blockbuster film Uppena (2022). Released amidst massive hype due to the chart-topping music album and the inclusion of Vijay Sethupathi, the romantic drama gathered positive reviews and emerged as the highest-grossing Telugu film for a debut hero, smashing the previous record of Chirutha (2007).
However, the mega-hero has completely failed to capitalise on his acting debut. All his releases since then have ended up as duds at the box office. His most recent venture, Aadikeshava (2023), an action drama starring Sreelela as the female lead, also falls in the same bracket. But there’s an unexpected twist in the tale. The disaster film received a blockbuster rating when it premiered on television. Star Maa, which bought the film’s satellite rights at a modest price, encountered a jackpot with a staggering TRP rating of 9.8–10.5.
This is not the first time the megastar’s nephew has surpised the satellite trade. His second venture, Konda Polam (2021), directed by Krish, also enjoyed a superb TRP of 12.3 in urban areas. While this can be attributed to the massive success of his previous venture, Uppena, Aadikeshava‘s success on small screens has come out of the syllabus. Anyway, the actor, who has faced a hatrick of flops lately, has something to be glad about.
