Amaran : A valiant and emotional biographical drama

0

Movie Name: Amaran
Rating: 3/5
Cast: Sivakarthikeyan, Sai Pallavi, Rahul Bose, Bhuvan Arora
Director:  Rajkumar Periasamy
Produced By:  Kamal Haasan
Release Date: October 31st, 2024

Directed by Rajkumar Periasamy, Amaran is a biopic of Major Mukund Varadarajan, starring Sivakarthikeyan and Sai Pallavi. The film is a fitting tribute to the valour and sacrifice of Major Mukund. Let’s find out if this biopic has enough punch to get the Diwali box-office ringing.

Story:

Amaran focuses on the life of Major Mukund Varadarajan of the 44th Rashtriya Rifle Regiment in the Indian Army who was martyred in a counter-terrorism operation. The film takes us on a thrilling and dramatic tale of the man from his early years as narrated by his wife, Indhu Rebecca Varghese.

The movie not only takes us along the life of the soldier but also the emotions that led to his decision and how it has affected his loved ones, setting up a befitting tribute to the Major and the Indian army.

Performances:

Sivakarthikeyan as Major Mukund Varadarajan showcases a never-seen-before side in Amaran. His mannerisms and body language are perfectly suited to the role of Major Mukund Varadarajan. Sai Pallavi as Indhu feels is perfectly cast and lights up the screen with her charming presence. Whenever she appears on-screen, you can’t help but feel the emotion as she goes through them. Bhuvan Arora, who plays the role of Sepoy Vikram Singh, is yet another beautiful addition to the cast of Amaran. Rahul Bose, Geetha Kailasam, Lallu, Shreekumar and several others have ably supported the main cast.

Analysis:

The film balances Mukund’s life off duty and his time in service. While
the army sequences occasionally lack novelty, the director manages to keep the portrayal
grounded and authentic. The first military operation is compelling, though the second half
feels slightly repetitive. Despite this, the director skillfully walks the fine line between
accuracy and commercial appeal. GV Prakash Kumar’s background score elevates the film’s emotional impact, with thumping music that increases the intensity of action sequences. The visuals and war sequences are well shot and technically Amaran provides a great experience to the audience.

Positives:

  • Sivakarthikeyan and Sai Pallavi
  • GV Prakash’s BGM
  • Visuals
  • Sensitive writing by Rajkumar Periasamy

Negatives:

  • Prolonged action scenes
  • Predictability

Verdict:

Amaran is truly an immortal tale of a soldier whose legacy will pass on as an inspiration for many leaders and soldiers. With strong performances and characterizations, this biographical war film will surely touch your heart and move you.

Nandamuri Balakrishna’s much-anticipated film, currently referred to as ‘NBK109’ and directed by Bobby, had fans buzzing with excitement for a major title reveal this Diwali. However, producer Naga Vamsi has confirmed that the title teaser’s release has been delayed, due to extensive CG work on a special poster the team planned to unveil. Instead, the announcement is now expected in the second week of November 2024.

Fans of Balakrishna have been eagerly speculating over possible titles, with ‘Sarkar Sitaram’ and ‘Daaku Maharaj’ leading the rumors. Recently, insider reports suggest that while ‘Sarkar Sitaram’ was once favored, the team may now be leaning toward ‘Daaku Maharaj’, considering fan feedback and social media discussions. Fans even trended ‘Daku Maharaj’ on various platforms, fueling anticipation around Balayya’s fierce and powerful new role in this film.

With Urvashi Rautela, Shraddha Srinath, and Chandini Chowdary sharing the screen with Balakrishna, NBK109 promises a high-octane experience that showcases his dynamic screen presence. Directed by Bobby, known for his distinct style, the film aims to be a complete entertainer, pairing Balakrishna’s intensity with a gripping storyline.

While the postponed teaser has slightly tempered the Diwali excitement, the confirmation of a November release has kept fans on edge, eagerly awaiting the official title reveal and a glimpse into the film’s tone and style.

Vettaiyan starring Rajinikanth released amid great hype and expectations. But the film managed to sustain poorly at the box office. Vettaiyan performed decent in the first weekend but ended up becoming a failure later. With this, Vettaiyan is all set to arrive on the OTT space in just 4 weeks.

All the South Indian Biggie films have been arriving on the OTT within 4 weeks after their release recently. Vettaiyan too is following the same pattern and now arriving on Amazon Prime Video from 8th November in all the prominent languages.

Vettaiyan has managed to gross around 250 crores worldwide against the pre-release business of 325 crores. The film has quite obiviously registered itself as box office failure at the box office with this performance. Rajinikanth is also said to have committed to doing one more film for the Production house, Lyca Production as a compensation for Vettaiyan and their previous collaborations‘ losses.

The Actor already has Coolie directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. So, it is speculated that he would be acting under the direction of Venkat Prabhu for the Lyca Productions. Venkat Prabhu is riding high with the big success of The GOAT recently

KA Movie Review : An Engaging Thriller that will keep you Hooked

0

Movie Name: KA
Rating: 2.75/5
Cast: Kiran Abbavaram, Tanvi Ram, Nayan Sarika, Achyuth Kumar
Director: Sujith Maddela, Sandeep Maddela
Produced By:  Chinta Gopal Krishna Reddy
Release Date: October 31st, 2024

Kiran Abbavaram’s KA has managed to create some strong buzz owing to its unique promotional content and trailer. The makers have managed to keep the film’s plot and crux under wraps. The film has created decent expectations and lets find out if it has enough to stand up to what Kiran Abbavaram and the makers have promised.

Story:

Kiran Abbavaram (Abhinay Vasudeva), an orphan finds himself kidnapped and trapped in a dark room. He has no memory of his past when questioned about specific events in his life. However, he starts remembering these incidents only when a hypnotizing machine is activated. Meanwhile, a young woman is also being held captive in the adjacent room. The story progresses as Abhinay begins to recall significant moments from his past! What’s the reason behind his lack of memory and how does Abhinay figure a a way out? This is what the movie follows.

Performances:

Kiran Abbavaram deserves credit for taking on a unique script and delivering a solid performance. He shines in the action sequences and gives his best in the intense moments. KA will definitely stand out as a landmark project for the young actor. Nayan Sarika, who was last seen in the successful Aay, plays a similar role here. However, her part isn’t as impactful since the focus isn’t on the romance, limiting her screen time. She looks fine and does a decent job with what she has

Analysis:

KA is infused with strong thriller elements and manages to keep the audience occupied from the word go. The director duo of Sandeep and Sujith successfully develops a sense of mystery not just about Abhinay’s character but also the world around him.

Instead of taking the conventional route of a thriller, it keeps audiences wondering with unexpected turns, and this is where directors Sujith and Sandeep excel. The strength of the movie lies in connecting the links in the tale and Kiran Abbavaram’s believable portrayal add further value to the movie.

All things considered, KA uniquely uses common village-based drama clichés. The movie is a great attempt considering its budget. It’s high on technical values and will surely keep you hooked. But a last blow in the end might leaves us feeling conflicted. You may either like the end or not. But, you’ll surely be treated to something fresh here. If you’re a fan of thrillers and mysteries, do give it a shot!

Positives:

  • Screenplay
  • Interval Bang
  • Twists in the movie
  • BGM by Sam CS
  • Climax

Negatives:

  • Some unnecessary scenes
  • Underdevelopment of few supporting characters
  • Pacing issues in second half

Verdict:

KA is a unique representation of a traditional rural thriller with a skillful combination of philosophy and suspense. While the film has some pacing issues and writing inconsistencies, it will certainly amuse you and keep you hooked for a major portion. KA is for you if you’re seeking something unique from the usual Tollywood’s brand thrillers.

Amaran tops Vettaiyan and The GOAT

0

Amaran starring Siva Karthikeyan is on the way to creating a big opening day record. The film’s Telugu Dubbed version estimate too looks very good at the box office. Vettaiyan and The GOAT had a poor opening in Telugu market recently. Both these films had low buzz and performed in the same way. Amaran looks to top both Vettaiyan and The GOAT on the opening day itself.

Both Rajinikanth and Vijay cultivated a good market in Telugu States in the recent past years. But both failed to establish big record with their respective films. But Siva Karthikeyan has managed to beat them with Amaran. Hyderabad city’s Telugu version Day 1 advance bookings gross is close to 0.85 crores which is sensational for his standard.

Amaran is all set to take Siva Karthikeyan into the top league. The film is also expected to open with more than 30 crores gross on the opening day across all languages worldwide. There are extraordinary advances in all the territories as well. In Tamil Nadu, the advances are on a rampage mode set for a 15 crore start from there itself which is higher Indian 2 which carried big hype before release with the star power of both Shankar and Kamal Haasan.

Lucky Bhaskar Movie Review: A Masterclass Humane Financial Crime Thriller

0

Movie Name: Lucky Baskhar
Rating: 3.25/5
Cast: Dulquer Salmaan, Meenakshi Chaudhury, Sai Kumar
Director: Venky Atluri
Produced By:  Naga Vamsi S – Sai Soujanya
Release Date: October 31st, 2024

Dulquer Salmaan is back with another novel concept, Lucky Baskhar. The movie has managed to create great curiosity owing to its genre and promotional content and with Venky Atluri helming the project, there’s a strong buzz regarding the film. Let’s see if the Dulquer and Venky have managed to score the much awaited festive hit with Lucky Baskhar.

Story:

A cash-strapped cashier named Bhaskar ( Dulqeer Salmaan ) working at a bank embarks on a risky investment scheme and soon gets drawn into the murky world of money laundering. The rest of the plot is about how his financial journey has been so far from gaining highs and lows together in this financial crime drama thriller.

Performances:

Dulquer Salmaan shines as a con-man bank employee Bhaskar and in fact the whole film revolves highly around him and his characterization. He effortlessly does the job of fourth-wall breaking saying some heavy Telugu dialogues that not just convey his perspective but also places the audiences as the protagonist itself. Meenkashi Chaudhary as Srimathi and their son Rithvik does amazing job and are not just some caricaturish family roles that are given to them but also quite significant depth in them in this overly materialistic world of Lucky Bhaskar’s Bombay. They also emotionally navigate the journey of the film’s drama and Ramki ( Anthony ) does great job in being the partner in crime for Bhaskar ( Dulquer Salmaan) while being supplemented by his friend in need, played by Rajkumar Kasireddy.

Analysis:

Lucky Bhaskar is set in the early 1990s of Bombay where the city is not just a financial capital but also delves upon how these financial needs have made the city’s society less civil and more materialistic reflecting upon the real world aspirations of the world. The drama, crime and emotions unfolds around the materialistic needs of the people and Bhaskar is one of those Lucky Chap who just not understands this materialism but analyzes it to grow higher too in this market. Venky Atluri cleverly writes the story of the film inducing some clever mass moments in a subtle class setting through Dulquer’s excellent command over dialogue delivery in the fourth-wall breaking sequences. Not just that, the writing and execution of Venky has been excellent in the way some core financial subjects have been written and simplified with ease for the audience. The production design by Baglan and editing by Naveen Nooli complement each other in finessing the technical aspect behind the story-telling and narration of the film. GV Prakash has given some very terrific Background to the film especially at the interval point where there is a great point of both retro and metro remix version that gives an instantaneous kick to the film. However, the film has been on 6th gear screenplay throughout the film but at the beginning of the third act, when the emotional drama kicks in, it gets little sluggish which is for just some 15-20 minutes that could have been improvised but rests as the perfect TFI’s own Wolf of the Wall street.

Positives:

  • Dulquer Salmaan’s Performance
  • Screenplay
  • Excellent BGM
  • Solid 1st half
  • Excellent production design
  • Great Cinematography
  • Clever Writing
  • Dialogues

Negatives:

  • Sluggish 15-20 mins in Second Half
  • Weak Songs
  • Pacing issues

Verdict:

A Venky Atluri’s well crafted SCAM thriller, DQ shines in this con-man financial thriller drama, with very well written characterization and screenplay that is well complemented by good set-ups and payoffs through great dialogue writing. Terrific Background score by GV Prakash and the shining DQ gave some MASSY highs in this classy film.
