Dragon Director Requested Mahesh Babu

Pradeep Ranganathan’s latest blockbuster, Dragon, is having a good run at the box office. Starring Anupama Parameswaran and Kayadu Lohar as heroines, the movie was dubbed into Telugu with the title Return of The Dragon. Ashwath Marimuthu, the director of the film, requested Mahesh Babu watch the film.

Ashwath Marimuthu directed ‘Ori Devuda,’ a remake of his first Tamil film, Oh My Kadavule. February 21 marked the release of ‘Return of the Dragon’ to Telugu audiences. In Telugu states, Mythri Movie Makers released it.  The Mythri team held a success meet after the film surpassed Rs 100 crore globally. During the press meet, Ashwath Marimuthu requested Mahesh Babu to watch the film.

It is a known fact that superstar Mahesh Babu immediately posts a review on social media after watching any film. Even if it’s a small film or a big film, he shares his opinion on X (Twitter) if he likes a film, be it in any language.

‘Oh My Kadavule’ features Ashok Selvan and Ritika Singh, directed by Ashwath Marimuthu. Mahesh saw the movie during COVID. He praised the film’s team, and the film quickly trended on social media. Many people Googled it and viewed it frequently. Ashwath got the opportunity to direct the Telugu version of ‘Ori Devuda.’. Ashwath now urges Mahesh to check out his movie ‘Dragon’ as well.

Meanwhile, Dragon had an extraordinary 2nd weekend at the box office, as it crossed the 100 Cr mark globally, and in Telugu states, the film also collected around 15 Cr gross, and it is a sensational blockbuster. Still, Pradeep Ranganathan’s Dragon is the No. 1 choice for Tamil and Telugu audiences.

Vidaamuyarchi, starring Ajith released recently and became a big disaster, receiving negative reviews. The film was also made on a huge budget of around 250 crores, and the Production House, Lyca Productions, had to pay an additional 20 crores for the remake rights issue. Vidaamuyarchi released on deficits because of these reasons. However, the film ended up becoming a 100-crore loss venture by the end of its theatrical run.

The film had a big star cast along with Arjun, Trisha, and Regina playing pivotal roles, and half of the budget naturally went to the remuneration of Ajith. The Actor was believed to have received a 100 crore remuneration, and another 50 crores was spent for the rest of the Actors and crew members.

For heavy budget films like these, the theatrical performance matters a lot to cover the deficits with big numbers. But, Vidaamuyarchi theatrically witnessed a failure result and collected only around 145 crores gross with share between 60 and 65 crores worldwide. The Non-Theatrical business of the film is said to have been done for around 110 crores. With this, the total business of Vidaamuyarchi is in the range of 170 crores, and the budget was 270 crores. This makes a 100 crore loss for the Production House.

Lyca Productions has witnessed a series of heavy losses. This started with Indian 2, Chandramukhi 2, and Lal Salaam. Their next film is L2: Empuraan starring Mohanlal which has been made with a huge budget. This film is slated for release on 27th March and the performance of the film is very crucial for Lyca Productions.

Naga Chaitanya and Sai Pallavi’s Thandav was released in theaters worldwide this February, and it received good reviews and became a success at the box office. The 100 Cr controversy has surrounded Thandel’s producer during the Chhaava Telugu Promotions.

Before the release itself, Gettha Arts, the makers of the Thandav movie, continuously stated that the movie would deliver a triple-digit number for Naga Chaitanya, and they particularly stressed the 100 Cr mark in almost all of the promotional interviews.

The movie was released in theaters on February 7th and did extremely well at the box office and emerged as the biggest grosser of Naga Chaitanya’s career. The makers announced that the film had crossed 100 crore gross in the second week itself, but the trade numbers for the film till now are in the 80-85 crore range.

Tollwood Actor NTR and Director Prashanth Neel collaborated for a film, tentatively titled, NTRNeel. The film’s shoot was also commenced recently, with the Director posting an image of an action episode under filming. The Producer of the film, Yalamanchili Ravi Shankar spoke about the film today raising the eyebrows of the audience.

The Producer participated in the success meet of the film, Dragon, starring Pradeep Ranganthan today. When asked about NTRNeel, he said that the film is going to be the costliest film made in the career of Prashanth Neel, and it will also have a bigger scale than his previous films KGF Series and Salaar, having an International release. This excited the fans and audience to the core. He also hinted that the title of the film will be along the lines of Dragon and said that success of Pradeep Ranganathan’s Dragon will be a boost for their film.

The locations for the film have also been fixed, and it will be shot in many foreign locations with a massive budget as a high voltage action flick. Meanwhile, NTR is currently busy with his War 2 co-starring Hrithik Roshan, which is in the final stages of its shoot. He will join NTRNeel at this month’s end. The Teaser for War 2 is also expected to arrive on the birthday of NTR, i.e., 20th May.

Finally, Manamey On OTT

Sharwanand and Krithi Shetty’s film Manamey was released in theaters last June. The film received decent word of mouth and reviews but did not work at the box office. The makers and some reviewers also felt that it will work on OTT. However, the digital release of the film was delayed for a long time, and finally Sharwanand’s Manamey is arriving on OTT.

The film deals with the concept of love/emotional bonding and family, so it will certainly be a good watch on OTT, and the audiences have eagerly waited for its digital streaming. As said above, Manamey’s OTT release was delayed continuously, and the producers said in an interview that they were cheated by a person regarding the non-theatrical rights deal, which was the reason for the OTT delay.

Finally, Sharwanand’s Manamey is arriving on OTT. The youthful family entertainer will be available for streaming on the popular platform Prime Video, and it is likely to stream from 9th March.
