Coolie Smashes Weekend Records

0

Rajinikanth’s Coolie finished an excellent weekend at the box office. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, the film was released amidst huge expectations and did not receive great reviews. But still it smashes many records in its first weekend.

Despite all the criticism against its content or loopholes, Coolie had a record-breaking first weekend for Kollywood with around ₹380 Cr gross worldwide. Achieving such a record-breaking weekend with unfavorable WOM and reviews is not easy, but Rajini did that sensationally.

Rajinikanth’s Coolie Beats Leo: Registers The Biggest Weekend For Kollywood

Leo has collected 356 Cr gross worldwide in the first 4 days, and Rajinikanth’s Coolie smashes that weekend record. The concern for this action drama is that the advance bookings are not promising for today, at least; it needs decent collections with massive walk-ins.

The film needs to hold a good collection for another week to 10 days, which would allow the buyers to achieve the break-even.

War 2’s Weekend Disaster

0

Hrithik Roshan and NTR’s much-awaited War 2 failed to create much buzz before the release. The WOM/reviews opened poorly; with this, the film saw a bad opening and a disastrous weekend.

In the Telugu states, the film has collected around 37 Cr share on its 1st weekend, whereas the breakeven is at 95 Cr, which means it is heading towards becoming an outright disaster. In Hindi also, the film sees a poor opening weekend with a 122 Cr net collection in India.

War 2 Box Office: Disastrous First Weekend

For the movie scale and budget, the initial expectations are more than 225 Cr net for the 1st weekend, but the film collects only half of it. The film had a poor 1st weekend at the overseas box office with close to 6.5 million gross, which is very poor.

Overall the film has collected around 265 Cr gross worldwide on its 1st weekend. Crossing the 350 Cr mark from now on is a tough task for the film, as in Telugu it has almost closed its run, and it can only add some numbers in Hindi.

For the exciting combination of NTR and Hrithik Roshan, War 2 was expected to be a big money spinner, but sadly, it emerged as a disaster in the first weekend itself.

Constable Kanakam Review: A Conventional Yet Sincere Crime Thriller

0

Web Series Name: Constable Kanakam
Rating: 3/5
Cast: Varsha Bollamma, Megha Lekha, Avasarala Srinivas, Rajeev Kanakala, Ramana Bhargav, Prem Sagar, and others
Created by: Prasath Kumar Dimmala
Streaming on: ETV Win

The ETV Win series Constable Kanakam attracted attention when its team accused a well-known streaming service of copying their work.

Directed by Prasanth Kumar Dimmala, the series is a crime thriller set in a rural setup and stars Varsha Bollamma (who was recently seen in Thammudu) in the titular character. Let us see what special things the series’ concept has in our review.

Story:

Set in the 1990s, the series’ story occurs in a town called Repalle, where young women go missing under mysterious circumstances. Kankamahalakshmi (Varsha Bollamma) is a new and only female constable who sets out to chase the case of missing women, including her friend, Chandrika (Megha Lekha).

Performances:

Varsha Bollamma delivers a sincere performance and makes one root for her character with the believable body language and expressions. Megha Lekha and Avasarala Srinivas are good, while Ramana Bhargav and Prem Sagar also make their presence felt, while Rajeev Kanakala stands as the sincere head constable who supports Kanakam at every step.

Analysis:

Directed by Prasanth Kumar Dimmala, Constable Kanakam keeps things simple for such an intriguing concept. It also has a few moments of humor now and then. Even with all the action going on, the show stays true to its character-driven nature.

Kanakam’s story centers on her battle against all the biases she faces while trying to uncover the mystery of the many young girls who have gone missing from her village. Her emotional bond with Chandrika is also good.

The series gets a nice boost from those cold open prologues, which often show unsettling snippets from a stranger’s childhood that enhance the mystery rather than just piecing things together. In these scenes, the director goes brave regarding the violence.

One of the prologues is hard-hitting, where a young child sets an animal on fire just because he is jealous, and it is pretty hard to stomach.

Though Prasanth maintains the intrigue around the murders, he could not make it a shocking revelation, as the narration gives away the hint too early. The scenes where Kanakam investigates, such as her trip to Delhi, could have been shown more effectively.

When the secret finally spills in the last episode, the backstory of the villain in Constable Kanakam drags on, and the director also keeps throwing in long/conversational flashbacks that turn out a bit boring.

Positives:

  • Varsha Bollama and Rajeev Kanakala’s Performance
  • Sincere Taking/Narration
  • Background Score/Camera Work

Negatives:

  • Generic Traits
  • Lack Of Required Excitement
  • Drags After Key Revelation

Constable Kanakam Review and Verdict:

Constable Kanakam is a regular but sincere crime thriller that has engaging narration, natural performances, and good technical values. Though it falters in having the required shocking feel for its genre, it still ends up as a good watch.

Coolie Joins 350 Cr Club

0

Rajinikanth’s Coolie finished the extended first weekend on a good note. Though it did not meet the expectations of audiences, the film gathered good collections at the box office. Coolie joins the 350 Cr club in the 1st weekend itself.

The film is estimated to collect around 375 Cr gross worldwide in its 1st weekend. It also becomes the 7th Kollywood film to achieve this milestone, with Rajinikanth leading the list with 3 films.

Kollywood’s 350 Cr+ & Top 7 Grossers List:

  1. 2 Point O
  2. Jailer
  3. Leo
  4. Ponniyin Selvan 1
  5. Vikram
  6. GOAT
  7. Coolie

Rajinikanth’s Coolie crosses the 350 Cr mark at the worldwide box office in 4 days, and it is likely to end up at the 4th position in the above-mentioned list considering the unfavorable WOM and weekend trend

The film could have easily become the no. 1 grosser for Kollywood if Lokesh Kanagaraj had given a decent film at least.

Naga Vamsi in Serious Trouble

0

Naga Vamsi emerged as one of the biggest producers in Tollywood with a very good success ratio in recent years. He also tasted success in distribution with Leo and Devara. But Naga Vamsi is in serious trouble now after Kingdom and War 2.

As said above, Vamsi quickly became the address for success with continuous hits. The distribution of Devara was a huge success, followed by Daaku Maharaj and Mad Square, and he announced a big pan-India film in the combination of NTR and Trivikram.

Vamsi reached the range of Dil Raju and Mythri Movies in releasing continuous films and scoring successes. But now Naga Vamsi faces serious issues with continuous setbacks.

Kingdom and War 2: Back-to-Back Losses For Naga Vamsi

Retro was released in the Telugu States by Naga Vamsi, which is an outright disaster. Kingdom also did not achieve break-even for buyers.

Now the biggest setback for Vamsi is that War 2 is heading towards more than a 50% loss venture. His next film, Mass Jathara, does not carry much buzz, and due to workers’ strike, the movie’s works are still pending, which has forced a postponement.

Rains Killing War 2, Coolie

0

The Independence Day clash between War 2 and Coolie excited audiences and trade as well. Both films were expected to mint huge collections. However, none of the films received good talk. Also, rains in Telugu states are killing War 2 and Coolie 2 today.

For any film, the first Sunday is so crucial because that is the day when a film normally registers big collections and footfalls. For the Coolie and War sequels, the first Sunday is more crucial because both films opened with bad to mixed WOM and reviews.

Huge Rains In Telugu States: Coolie And War 2 See Decline In Collections

Because both films might find it tough to maintain collections after Sunday. The sad part is both films were hit very hard by heavy rains in Telugu states. Both films see a big drop in collections compared to yesterday due to rains. This is a shocker for buyers.

War 2 and Coolie have been affected by huge rains, and the weather reports suggest that these could be continuing for the next 2-3 days, which will put the theater owners in high trouble.

NTR Hit Streak Ends

0

From Temper to Devara, star actor NTR never had a flop at the box office for nearly a decade. However, War 2, which was supposed to be a big jump in his career, is moving towards a big failure. NTR’s hit streak ends with War 2.

Maintaining a success streak is so tough in the cinema industry, as the success ratio is very low for almost all heroes. But NTR from Temper maintained the hit streak without any failure.

However, with War 2, NTR fails to maintain the record and ends the streak of hits. The film has collected 35 Cr share in Telugu states for three days, and the breakeven stands at 95 Cr including GST, which means a 50% loss is expected for buyers.

War 2 Stops The Success Streak of NTR Since Decade

The War sequel is turning out to be an outright disaster, as even the Hindi version is also not doing well, and it is likely to close under 200 Cr net in India at the current trend.

So, in Hindi also, this spy action drama is a failure. Overall, for 3 days, the film has collected around 215 Cr gross worldwide, and it is likely to end under 350 Cr gross.

War 2 Bombs in Telugu States

0

NTR’s Bollywood debut film, War 2, was released in theaters amidst huge expectations among fans. The film did not receive positive talk, which affected its collections. As a result, War 2 bombs in Telugu states.

The Telugu States theatrical rights of the War sequel were bought by Naga Vamsi for 82 Cr excluding GST; with GST, the film needs to collect a 95 Cr share for break-even. The film sees a below-par opening and holds average on day 2.

War 2 Drops Heavily In Telugu States

But on day 3 it completely loses the momentum and sees a heavy drop in numbers. NTR and Hrithik Roshan’s War 2 is heading towards a big failure in Telugu states.

For three days, the Telugu states’ share is around 5 Cr, including GST, and the Hindi version’s recovery is just at 35%. Today advance bookings are also poor for the film, and even crossing 50 Cr share itself looks not possible.

Unexpectedly, this spy action drama is heading towards a heavy loss venture for all buyers involved in its business.
