Story

Set in and around Vizianagaram in the 1990s, Peddi revolves around a nameless, remote village near the hills that doesn’t exist on government maps, has no postal code, no railway station, and does not even have voting rights. It shows how a man named Peddi fought to preserve his village’s identity by excelling in multiple sports and facing many challenges.

Performances

Ram Charan delivered an exceptional performance as Peddi. From start to finish, he lived in the character and made many proceedings work with his natural acting, carrying the film on his shoulders.

Jagapathi Babu plays a crucial character and leaves a lasting impact. Shivarajkumar is strong in the coach role, while Janhvi Kapoor‘s character isn’t fully realized—the director focuses more on her glamour than on character development. Divyendu was decent in his role, while Boman Irani was also alright. Other actors were okay.

Analysis

Director Buchi Babu starts Peddi on a good note. The introduction episode of the hero in a cricket match and the Rai Rai Raa Raa song work well. He ensures the intended emotion is delivered in several sequences—Appalasoori’s struggle, Peddi’s realization at the interval, the post-interval kusthi episodes, the hospital sequence, the songs, and the climax all work very well and leave a strong impact.

Coming to the flaws, the romantic track between Janhvi and Ram Charan is handled poorly. The attempt to induce emotions in the latter half of the track does not appear as natural as it should have been.

The villain characters, which appear strong at the start, get weaker as the film progresses, which affects the narrative at times. The film also slows down at the Delhi episode before the shocking twist arrives, then ends with an impactful climax.
