Kesari Chapter 2 Movie Review: A Sincere Patriotic Drama

0

Movie Name: Kesari Chapter 2
Rating: 3/5
Cast:
Akshay Kumar, Ananya Panday, R Madhavan and others
Director: Karan Singh Tyagi
Produced By:
Aruna Bhatia – Amritpal Singh Bindra – Hiroo Johar – Karan Johar
Release Date: 18th April 2025

Akshay Kumar, who is facing continuous failures at the box office, has come up with a Courtroom drama/biopic Kesari 2. Kesari Chapter 2 draws inspiration from the book “The Case That Shook The Empire” by Raghu Palat and Pushpa Palat. The film focuses on the lesser-known events following the Jallianwala Bagh massacre and highlights the struggle for justice spearheaded by C Sankaran Nair, a lawyer and former President of the Indian National Congress.

Story:

A peaceful protest against the Rowlatt Act takes place at Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar on April 13, 1919. General Reginald Dyer shows up with armed soldiers and unexpectedly commands them to shoot at the crowd. Thousands died in the incident, with their bodies exposed to scavengers like eagles and crows. Though the press keeps silent, public anger grows. The British rule finds a solution to this problem. On one side, it gives Rs 25 in compensation; on the other, it launches a bogus inquiry into the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. The British government establishes an investigation commission. Sir C Sankaran Nair, portrayed by Akshay Kumar, stands alone as an Indian who fully trusts British justice. The rest of the film is about what turns did the case took as Sankaran discovers the truth behind it and how he challenges the crown in the court.

Performances:

At first, Akshay Kumar’s performance feels standard, but it enhances throughout the movie. Ananya Panday showcases confidence in her performance. Amit Sial shows cleverness that resonates well. As the defense attorney, Madhavan portrays Neville McKiney, a mixed heritage character, enhancing the film’s strength. The remaining actors, featuring the British roles, execute their parts flawlessly.

Analysis:

Karan Singh Tyagi directs Kesari Chapter 2, which is based on the book, “The Case That Shook The Empire” by Raghu Palat and Pushpa Palat. He does well, though a few parts appear exaggerated and boring. Starting with intensity, the film’s first half slows down before delivering an exciting second half with a court showdown between Akshay and Madhavan. There’s a slight feel of incompleteness before the climax, but it is shown that those scenes were planted wantedly to evoke the right emotions in the final court scene.

Positives:

  • Initial Episode
  • Performances
  • Second Half
  • Climax

Negatives:

  • Exaggerated Scenes that elevate Patriotism/Lead Character
  • Few Dull Moments in the First Half
  • Not So Effective Songs/Background Score

Kesari 2 Movie Review and Verdict:

Kesari Chapter 2 is a sincere patriotic drama based on real incidents. It may lack subtlety and appear dull at times, but it impresses with brilliant performances and a well-executed second half.

Performances:

Kalyan Ram portrays a loving son and an action hero. He acts strongly in emotional moments, particularly at the climax, while the heroism seems standard. Vijayashanthi returns to acting as a cop, a role she excelled in before. She exudes a nostalgic magic that leaves a good mpression. Saiee Manjrekar’s character lacks impact. Srikanth has a key role and performs well. Sohel Khan fails to impress as the main villain; his presence and acting lack impact. Babloo Prithiveeraj and others act convincingly

Analysis:

Pradeep Chilukuri wrote and directed Arjun Son Of Vyjayanthi. He chose a direct, familiar script that lacks surprises except for the ending. The film opens with the hero’s childhood, highlighting the mother-son bond. It then jumps 20 years ahead, explaining events through a back-and-forth narrative. In both halves, Some action and emotional scenes stand out, and though their impact is not as strong as intended, they work at the standard level. The Mahankali flashback in the second half is crucial, revealing why the Hero becomes rowdy. It works for the film. Moreover, a key episode revealing the connection of police and the villains is likewise fine. The highly hyped climax has a surprising twist, but it could have shown much effect if it was not heavily dragged until that moment

Positives:

  • Few Sentiment Scenes
  • Action Sequences
  • The Unexpected Twist at the Climax

Negatives:

  • Predictable Screenplay
  • Heroism scenes do not land that strong
  • Weak Villains

100 crores budget for Naga Chaitanya

0

Tollywood Actor Naga Chaitanya, after witnessing a series of failures, gave a strong comeback recently with his Thandel. The film grossed more than 100 crores worldwide, providing a blockbuster status for him at the box office. Now, his next film is being planned on a major level.

Naga Chaitanya is learned to have reportedly signed his next film with Karthik Dandu, fame of Virupaksha. This film will be jointly produced by BVSN Prasad and Director Sukumar. The planned budget is said to be more than a whopping 100 crores. Usually, for most of the films, there will be a 10-20% increase in the actual budget than the planned one. So, this may take the budget figure of the film to nearly 110 crores.

This is definitely a big venture for Naga Chaitanya. Thandel, which was made on a budget of around 90 crores, worked for all the parties. This was Naga Chaitanya’s highest budgeted flick. So, the Actor’s next film will have more risk involved with more than 100 crore budget also making it his 1st 100 crore budgeted film. The shoot of this film is said to start soon. The film, touted to be a mystery thriller, is also being planned as a summer release in 2026.

Odela 2 Day 1 Box Office collections

0

The latest Tamannaah starrer Odela 2 hit the theatres on 17th April. The film carried good hype with the buzz created by the Trailer and the promotional activities of the team. However, the film failed to create a big anticipation among the audience. The film was also affected because of its below-par reviews and word of mouth.

The film, as a result had a very poor opening at the box office. Odela 2 collected only around 1 crore gross worldwide which is shocking. The film has to collect more than 20 crores gross for the breakeven status. It needs a massive jump for a minimal recovery for the buyers.

It is really shocking to see Tamannaah’s film underperforming at this level. The lack of a strong male lead has also impacted the prospects of the film. We have to see how the film ends at the box office.

Good Bad Ugly Crosses 200 Crores

0

Ajith’s latest action film, Good Bad Ugly, is breaking box office records. The film’s opening day grossed over ₹50 crore, making it Ajith’s first film to do so. Within a few days, it quickly reached the ₹100 crore and ₹150 crore clubs, setting new records for the star.

The film grossed ₹194 crore worldwide in its first week, the highest for any Ajith film. On the seventh day, Good Bad Ugly surpassed the coveted ₹200 crore mark globally. This is Ajith’s second film to reach the ₹200 crore mark, following Thunivu. With no other big movie to compete with, the Good Bad Ugly is all set to make good use of the long weekend.

Today, the film is on the verge of becoming Ajith’s all-time highest grosser. With the Good Friday holiday boosting footfalls, and the weekend ahead looking strong, Good Bad Ugly is poised for another massive run. Trade analysts predict it will comfortably breach the ₹250 crore mark, setting a new record for the star. The film’s excellent performance underlines Ajith’s massive fan base and solidifies his box office pull.

Satires On Jaat Sequel

0

In a surprising move, the sequel to Jaat was officially announced on April 17, with Sunny Deol set to return and Gopichand Malineni on board as the director. While sequels usually generate widespread excitement, this announcement has drawn unexpected satire from within Bollywood circles.

Despite Jaat being Sunny Deol’s third-biggest hit, its performance at the box office has been relatively modest, with a net collection of around ₹60 crore in India. With the current trend, it is expected to close somewhere near ₹100 crore. However, considering the high production budget, these numbers are not considered strong enough to comfortably justify a sequel.

This sudden announcement has led to speculation among netizens, with many claiming that the sequel news is a strategic move to boost the film’s performance in its second weekend. Some even believe the announcement is merely a publicity stunt and doubt if Jaat 2 will actually materialize.

Nonetheless, the production house, Mythri Movie Makers, has a reputation for taking bold decisions. While Jaat might not have delivered the expected returns, the makers seem confident that the sequel could strike gold at the box office, possibly redeeming the franchise and making a stronger impact.
