Rana to play a cop in a supernatural film

Over the years Rana Daggubati has carved a niche for himself in both Telugu and Hindi. He continues to experiment with roles and films. Coming next, he will be seen as a cop in the untitled film directed by Milind Rau. Milind had earlier directed Siddharth starter horror film Gruham and rom-com Kadhal 2 Kalyanam.

Rana had last played a cop in 2012 film Department directed by Ram Gopal Varma. Produced by Achanta Gopinath, this supernatural adventure thriller will be an interesting one. The Bahubali actor will play the role of an emotional cop here. Although he has been approached for other films, Rau’s film will mostly be the actor’ss next film as a lead.

Apparently, the script has been under discussion for more than a year and both the actor and director have worked on developing it. Billed as a supernatural action-adventure thriller, the film will go on the floors after Rana wraps up shooting for his current film, a remake of the Malayalam film Ayyappanum Koshiyum.

Sri Vishnu’s director passes away of Covid

Covid continued its deathly spell and took away another director away. Young director Kumar Vatti who directed Sri Vishnu starrer Maa Abbayi breathed his last today. He was receiving treatment for Covid for the past few days in a Hyderabad hospital. He was 39.

Similarly, a couple of days ago director Sai Balaji Prasad also succumbed to Coronavirus, and earlier today another director KV Anand also passed away while receiving treatment. The industry is already reeling under the wrath of the pandemic with multiple celebrities testing positive.

Kumar Vatti hailed from Narasanna Peta from Srikakulam and came to Hyderabad and worked as an assistant director for a few years. He assisted director for Parasuram Petla on movies such as Anjeneyulu, Solo and Sarochharu before moving on to direction.

Industry insiders and Kumar Vatti’s colleagues expressed shock and grief over this sudden news.

Koratala starts works on NTR30

Director Koratala Siva has started pre-production works on much-awaited NTR30. It was after much suspense and last minute changes that it was decided that NTR and Koratala will be collaborating for this film.  This will be the second collaboration between the duo after the hugely successful Janatha Garage.

Over the last few months, there were multiple speculations over who would NTR chose for his 30th film. While Trivikram was the frontrunner for this, a creative difference between the two led to the movie being shelved for now. Post-Uppena’s success, even newcomer Bucchi Babu Sana was in the news to be directing the NTR30.

Koratala is currently busy with Acharya which was scheduled to release last year and was postponed due to Covid. Now the movie has once again been postponed for a later date owing to Covid second wave. The makers are now aiming for an August release.

Amidst all these delays Koratala has now started on a solid script for NTR 30. He is the only director from the big league without a release since 2018. With so much riding on this film, looks like we are surely in for something big!

Anasuya’s Thank You Brother trailer looks fresh and intriguing

With the Covid second wave disrupting the theatre business all over, all eyes are now on OTT platforms to dish out some interesting content. A number of web series and films are releasing with interesting concepts on multiple OTT platforms available today. One such attempt is Anasuya’s Thank You Brother. Thank You Brother trailer released today and looks quite interesting and unique. Anasuya plays the role of an expectant mother who is stuck in a lift with a stranger.

The movie tells the tale of a pregnant woman and a spoilt brat stuck in an elevator What conspires next and how they come out of the situation forms the crux of the story.

Ashwin Viraj is starring in a key role along with Anasuya. Ramesh Raparthi is directing this film and it will be produced by Magunta Sarath Chandra Reddy, Tharak Bommi Reddy. Thank You Brother will be premiering on Aha from May 7.

Vakeel Saab distributor demands compensation from Dil Raju

Power Star Pawan Kalyan’s Vakeel Saab released earlier this month to good reviews. The critics even declared this performance of Pawan Kalyan as one of the finest of his career. Power Star’s comeback to the big screen after 3 years was enough to generate massive hype for the movie. Such were the expectations on the film that it got great openings and occupancies. 

However, with theatres shutting down in most areas owing to Covid’s second wave, Dil Raju decided to go for an early OTT release. This Pawan Kalyan’s court drama released on Amazon Prime Video on 30th April. The theatrical run of the movie has officially come to an end and Dil Raju decided the movie will be up on the OTT and secured a great deal.

This early release on OTT hasn’t gone down well with the gulf distributor of Vakeel Saab. Dil Raju had earlier made an agreement that the film will release on OTT only after 50 days of theatrical release. However, with the film releasing in just 21 days, the gulf distributor is demanding compensation. The distributor has incurred losses and is demanding Raju to pay up for half of the loss.

A remake of the 2016 Bollywood movie Pink, Venu Sriram has directed this courtroom drama. The movie also stars Shruti Haasan, Nivetha Thomas, Anjali, and Ananya Nagalla in key roles.

Bellamkonda Srinivas to star in Karnan remake?

After the success of ‘Rakshasudu’, there are talks that Bellamkonda Srinivas might star in another Tamil remake. Reportedly, Srinvas’ father, producer Bellamkonda Suresh has acquired the remake rights of Dhanush’s recent blockbuster Karnan. The producer is looking to cast his own son in this remake of the Tamil blockbuster.

Mari Selvaraj has directed this action thriller which released earlier this month. The movie received great reviews from all quarters. Apart from this, it’s also taking the box -office by storm by registering massive numbers each passing day.

What’s impressive here is that these numbers have been achieved with the government-mandated 50% theatre occupancy. Movie lovers have turned out in huge numbers and turned this movie into huge box office success. The story follows the story of a village youth who fights for the rights of the marginalized sections of society.

Interestingly, another of Dhanush films, Asuran is also being remade into Telugu as Narappa. Venkatesh will be playing the lead role in this action drama.

Ace director KV Anand passes away

Tamil director-cinematographer KV Anand passed away on Friday in Chennai following a heart attack. He was 54. Anand started his career as a cinematographer with the Malayalam film Thenmavin Kombath. He worked as a cinematographer in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Hindi industries. Anand’s only direct film as a cinematographer in Telugu was the Mohan Babu starter ‘Punya Bhoomi Naa Desam’ in 1995.

Anand suffered a heart attack at his residence in the early hours of Friday and managed to drive himself to a nearby hospital where he passed away at 3 am, as per reports. His death has sent shockwaves across the country, which is still mourning the death of comedy icon Vivek.

He made his debut as a director with Kana Kanaden and since then has made some big-budget successful films over the last decade. Films such as Ayan (Veedokkade), Ko (Rangam), Mattran (Brothers), Anegan (Anekudu) established him as a leading director in the Tamil industry. Anand’s films such as Veedokkade and Rangam were hugely popular in Telugu as well.

KV Anand’s last directorial outing was Kaappaan, which was his third collaboration with Suriya. The film had a huge supporting cast, including Mohanlal and Arya. It followed the efforts of a security officer, who fails to stop the assassination of the country’s Prime Minister. He then vows to avenge his boss’s death.

Both Tamil and Telugu industry colleagues and insiders have expressed shock and grief over his passing away.

Nagarjuna planning to enter digital space?

With the closure of theatres, a lot of big-screen actors are making a foray into the digital space. As per the latest reports, even Nagarjuna is planning to make entry into the digital space. Apparently, he has been approached by an OTT giant for an exclusive web series.

Nagarjuna has not yet given a green signal yet but there are great chances that this project may materialize considering recent developments. Nagarjuna’s Wild Dog which failed to do well theatrically despite being strong in content did perform exceptionally well on Netflix. It has been trending in the top 5 in both Telugu as well as Tamil. Directed by Ahishor Solomon, this action thriller is based on certain real-life incidents. The movie also features Dia Mirza, Atul Kulkarni, Ali Reza, and Saiyyami Kher among others. It tells the story of Indian NIA and RAW’s heroics.

This should definitely push Nagarjuna to make an entry into the world of OTTs. If this happens, it will be a giant step for the industry. A number of Bollywood A-listers have already entered the digital space. In Tollywood, Samantha and Tamannah have been a part of this medium as well.

Priyadarshi deeply desires Nandini Rai

Actor Priyadarshi, who over the past few years has carved a niche for himself in Tollywood is a busy man these days. While on one hand he doing really well in comedy roles such as Jathi Ratnalu, he is also trying to challenge the actor in him through some films. Case in point are movies such as critically acclaimed Mallesham, Mail, Nandhi etc.

Now we hear that he is coming up with one more interesting character in Aha’s upcoming web series ‘In the Name of God’. Nandini Rai will be playing a key role in this web series. The show is touted to be a thriller in which Priyadarshi will be playing the role of a stranger deeply attracted to Nandini Rai. Smitten by Nandini, Priyadarshi will help her out in hiding her husband’s dead body.

The show will premiere in Aha on May 21st and will also have Posani Krishna Murali in an important role. After 11th Hour starring Tamannah, that released earlier this month, Aha has lined up many interesting content such as ‘ In the Name of God’ and Anasuya starrer ‘Thank You Brother’.

Akhanda teaser sets a new TFI record

Balakrishna’s Akhanda teaser is on a record-breaking spree. The teaser that was released on the occasion Ugadi has already amassed whopping 50 million views. Akhanda teaser has recorded all these views in just 16 days and in the process has become the fastest in TFI to do so. It now also stands as the second fastest in South India to achieve this record of 50 million views.

Just a couple of days ago, Allu Arjun’s Pushpa became the fastest in Tollywood to 50 million views. Pushpa achieved this feat in 19 days. Its teaser was released on 7th April on the eve of Allu Arjun’s birthday.

Balakrishna can be seen in a never-before avatar in the Akhanda teaser. His screen presence and dialogue delivery remind us of his heydays where he totally used to dominate the films with a magnifying screen presence.

The movie is the third one in Balakrishna and Boyapati combination after the hugely successful Simha and Legend. This teaser has now taken the expectations of the movie to another level.
