Brahmastra movie review: A visual feast with some issues

Every major industry in India has one massive film that they can truly be proud of. Tollywood has Baahubali and RRR, Sandalwood has KGF, Kollywood has Robot, and coming up with Ponniyin Selvan. Similarly, the Malayalam industry usually known for small to medium budget movies also delivered Mohanlal starter ‘Marakkar’. Bollywood has been lagging behind on this front and many believe Brahmastra to be a perfect addition to this club. Does this Ranbir Kapoor starter has enough fire and box-office stamina? Let’s find out.

Story: Shiva (Ranbir Kapoor) is a regular guy who works as a DJ. He and his girlfriend Isha (Alia Bhatt) lead a routine life till Shiva’s recurring dreams bring him face to face with Junoon (Mouni Roy) who is on a quest to create an all-powerful ‘Astra’. How is Shiva related to this supernatural world? Can he stop Junoon from her dangerous quest? How does he attain the powers to do so? This is what Brahmastra Part One- Shiva follows

Performances:  Ranbir Kapoor has a dual-faceted role and while he is quite convincing in the role of a loverboy, his slight weakness in action-packed larger than life superhero becomes slightly evident. Certain dialogues look unnatural coming from him but, overall he shoulders the film quite efficiently. Alia Bhatt as Isha has limited scope and does well as Ranbir’s love interest and a guide to channel his powers . However, in an action-packed visually rich film, her character, and the love story looks slightly distracting. Nagarjuna as Nandiastra has a great screen presence and might give chills in some scenes. Amitabh Bachchan as Guru of Ranbir has a mellow presence in the film and is well cast. It is Mouni Roy, who took most of the audience by surprise and does a terrific job as the antagonist. In a film featuring so many stars, she holds her role quite well.

Analysis: This is Bollywood’s biggest supernatural film and great emphasis has been placed on visual effects which are the film’s biggest strengths, Brahmastra is a great splash of colours on screen and Ayan Mukherjee has borrowed several elements from Hollywood superhero blockbusters. While the film takes enough time to establish the world of ‘Astras’ it might feel like an information overload for many. Technically, Brahmastra is great in many places and a run time of just over 2 hours and 45 minutes is optimal for a story of this scale. Ayan Mukherjee has consciously focussed n giving some great commercial moments like interesting cameos and great interval block and this ploy might work out well at the box-office.

Verdict: Brahmastra has all the elements to please you if you are a lover of commercial cinema. The film has the added advantage of a good VFX and a solid core plot. However, amidst the noise of larger than life superhero theme, Ayan Mukherjee has failed in creating an emotional connection which is one of the most crucial elements of a story. Overall it is a unique attempt and uses various mythological elements well and would appeal to the audience.

Classical Blockbuster Sita Ramam Is Streaming Now On OTT

Dulquer Salmaan and Mrunal Thakur’s Sita Ramam was released in theatres on August 5th. It opened to some decent collections on the first day and as word of mouth spread, the film quickly gained momentum at the box office.

The sparkling chemistry between the two main leads, the beautiful visuals of Kashmir, the poetic dialogues by Hanu Raghavapudi, and the apt performances from the supporting cast made Sita Ramam a classical blockbuster, garnering 85+ crores in its theatrical run.

After a successful theatrical episode, Sita Ramam is all set to win hearts on OTT also. Sita Ramam has been released on the Amazon Prime Video platform. It is streaming in Telugu, Tamil as well as Malayalam. The Hindi version of Sita Ramam was released in theatres only recently and the North audiences will have to wait a little longer for it to come on OTT.

Sita Ramam also stars Rashmika Mandanna, Tharun Bhascker, Sumanth and Sachin Khedekar in important roles. Vyjayanthi Movies has produced the film and Vishal Chandrashekar is the soul of this melodious album.

Shankar Working On 2 Big Projects Simultaneously; Resumes RC15 Shoot Now

Shankar seems to be one of the busiest directors in the film industry right now. The ace director is handling two of the biggest projects in Indian cinema at the same time. He is juggling between Ram Charan’s RC15 and Kamal Haasan’s Indian 2.

Earlier, all his attention was fixed on RC15 as Indian 2 looked like a lost cause. But after the success of Kamal Haasan’s Vikram, Indian 2 was back on cards once again. As a result, he had to put RC15 on hold and tend to Indian 2.

The shooting of Indian 2 was also briefly started in September but it has been halted once again. Shankar has now directed his attention to RC15 once again. Multiple schedules of the film have been completed already and a few more are left.

The shooting of the film was resumed today at The Institute of Genetics & Hospital for Genetic Diseases in Begumpet, Hyderabad. There are 4 days left for the schedule to end and the shooting will be carried out in different parts of Hyderabad city.

After Shankar is done with RC15, he will solely focus on completing Indian 2. Indian 2 has been a long time in the making and with Kamal’s recent form, it is the perfect time for Shankar to finish this project.

Brahmastra And Oke Oka Jeevitham FDFS Public Talk And Reviews

There have been two very important releases today, one for the revival of Bollywood and the other for an actor’s revival in the industry. Ranbir Kapoor’s Brahmastra and Sharwanand’s Oke Oka Jeevitham have been released in theatres.

Brahmastra is Bollywood’s most ambitious project to date, shot on a record-high budget. Brahasmtra has been released with some excellent hype and buzz among film fans. The advance bookings are not only brilliant in the North but also the Southern states.

The first reviews and the public talk of Brahmastra is out and the response seems to be mixed. While some are calling it a blockbuster, some seem to have completely dismissed the film. Brahmastra has failed to deliver in terms of blockbuster content.

The first half of the film was okayish and the second half was decent, followed by a stretched-out climax. Overall, Brahmastra is definitely watchable for the lead cast, VFX, and the effort spent in making the project but it is a letdown in terms of expectations. It will be interesting to see how this impacts the sequel of Brahmastra.

Coming to Sharwanand’s Oke Oka Jeevitham, the response is outstanding. Director Shree Karthick has hit it out of the park with some solid content. The superb blend of emotions and sci-fi elements worked on the big screen. The film has managed to engage the audience completely with its compact screenplay also. The general talk outside is that it is a must-watch film and that it is a landmark film in Sharwanand’s career. Special mentions need to be given to Amala Akkineni who owns it as the mother, making us laugh, cry and weep.

ఈ వారం బాక్స్ ఆఫీసు వద్ద రెండు సినిమాలు విడుదలయ్యాయి. ఒకటి బాలీవుడ్ భారీ బడ్జెట్ ప్యాన్ ఇండియా సినిమా అయిన బ్రహ్మాస్త్ర కాగా.. ఇంకొకటి తెలుగులో అభిరుచి గల నటుడు శర్వానంద్ ప్రధాన పాత్రలో నటించిన ఓకే ఒక జీవితం.

ముందుగా బాలీవుడ్ స్టార్ కపూల్ ర‌ణ్‌బీర్ క‌పూర్‌ – ఆలియా భట్ జంట‌గా నటించిన తొలి చిత్రం ‘బ్రహ్మాస్త్ర’. అయాన్ ముఖర్జీ దర్శకత్వంలో విజువ‌ల్ వండ‌ర్‌గా తెరకెక్కింది. ఈ చిత్రంలో బిగ్ బి అమితాబ్ బచ్చన్, మౌని రాయ్, డింపుల్ కపాడియా మరియు కింగ్ నాగార్జున అక్కినేని కీలక పాత్రల్లో నటించారు. ఇక ఈ చిత్రాన్ని ద‌క్షిణాది రాష్ట్రాల్లో ఎస్ ఎస్ రాజ‌మౌళి సమర్పించడంతో ఈ సినిమా పై భారీ అంచనాలు నెలకొన్నాయి. మొత్తం మూడు భాగాలుగా రూపొందనున్న బ్రహ్మాస్త్ర తొలి భాగం నేడు (సెప్టెంబర్ 9న) ప్యాన్ ఇండియా స్థాయిలో భారీ అంచనాల నడుమ విడుదలైంది.

ఓ వైపు సోషల్ మీడియాలో ఈ సినిమా పై బాయ్ కాట్ ట్రెండ్ నడుస్తున్నా.. బ్రహ్మాస్త్ర సినిమా చూసిన ప్రేక్షకుల నుంచి మాత్రం మంచి స్పందనే వస్తుంది. బ్రహ్మాస్త్ర చిత్రాన్ని దర్శకుడు అయాన్ ముఖర్జీ ఒక అద్భుతమైన విజువల్‌ వండర్‌ గా తెరకెక్కించారని.. కథ చాలా సింపుల్ గా అనిపించినా.. విజువల్ ఎఫెక్ట్స్‌తో ఆసక్తికరంగా సినిమాని నడిపించారని అంటున్నారు.

ఇక నిజ జీవితంలో భార్యాభర్తలైన రణ్‌బీర్, ఆలియా భట్ మధ్య కెమిస్ట్రీ చాలా చక్కగా ఉందని సోషల్ మీడియా రివ్యూలలో పేర్కొంటున్నారు. ఒక్కో క్యారెక్టర్ ను పరిచయం చేసిన తీరు చాలా బాగుందని చెబుతున్నారు. ఆలియా భట్‌ మరియు రణ్‌బీర్ నటన అద్భుతంగా ఉందని, అలాగే ముఖ్య పాత్రల్లో నాగార్జున, షారుఖ్ ఖాన్ ల చమక్కు మనిపించే సన్నివేశాలు కూడా చాలా బాగున్నాయని అంటున్నారు. ట్రయాలజీగా తెరకెక్కిన ఈ సినిమా ఆద్యంతం అలరించింది అని అంటున్న ప్రేక్షకులు. పార్ట్-2 కోసం ఎదురుచూస్తున్నట్లు కూడా చెబుతున్నారు.

ఇక శర్వానంద్ ఓకే ఒక జీవితం సినిమా కూడా చాలా బాగా వచ్చిందని అంటున్నారు. ఎంతో సహజంగా కనిపించే భావోద్వేగాల సమ్మేళనంలా ఉన్న సినిమా చాలా బలమైన కంటెంట్‌ తో రూపొందినది అని ప్రేక్షకుల్లో అంటున్నారు. చాలా మంచి స్క్రీన్ ప్లేతో సినిమాలో ప్రేక్షకులు పూర్తిగా లీనమయ్యే విధంగా తెరకెక్కిందని, శర్వానంద్ కెరీర్‌లో మరో కలికితురాయిగా నిలిచే సినిమా అవుతుందని, ఇది థియేటర్లలో తప్పక చూడాల్సిన సినిమా అని టాక్ వచ్చింది.

దుల్కర్ సల్మాన్ మరియు మృణాల్ ఠాకూర్‌ జంటగా నటించిన అద్భుత ప్రేమకథా చిత్రం అయిన సీతా రామం ఎట్టకేలకు OTT విడుదల తేదీని ఖరారు చేసుకుంది. బాక్సాఫీస్ వద్ద 85+ కోట్లకు పైగా వసూలు చేసి ప్రేక్షకుల నుండి విశేషమైన ఆదరణ పొందిన ఈ చిత్రం అతి త్వరలో OTTలో విడుదల కానుంది.


మొదటి రోజు కాస్త సాధారణమైన కలెక్షన్స్‌తో ప్రారంభం అయిన ఈ చిత్రం తరువాతి రోజుల్లో అంచెలంచలుగా కలెక్షన్లను పెంచుకుంటూ వచ్చింది. దుల్కర్ – మృణాల్ మధ్య అద్భుతమైన కెమిస్ట్రీ ప్రేక్షకులను ఆకట్టుకుంది. వారి సహజమైన నటన కూడా ప్రజల హృదయాలను గెలుచుకుంది. నెల రోజులుగా ఈ సినిమా థియేటర్లలో విజయవంతంగా రన్ అవుతోంది.

బాక్స్ ఆఫీసు వద్ద ఎదురే లేకుండా సాగిన థియేట్రికల్ రన్ తర్వాత, సీతా రామం అమెజాన్ ప్రైమ్ వీడియో OTT ప్లాట్‌ఫారమ్‌లో విడుదలకు సిద్ధంగా ఉంది. ఈ రోజు నుంచే ఈ చిత్రం అమేజాన్ ప్రైమ్ లో స్ట్రీమింగ్ అవుతుంది. సీతా రామం తెలుగు, తమిళం మరియు మలయాళం భాషలలో అమేజాన్ ప్రైమ్ వీడియోలో ప్రసారం చేయబడుతుంది.


అయితే ప్రస్తుతం సీతా రామం తాలూకు హిందీ వెర్షన్ పోయిన వారం నుంచి ధియేటర్ లలో విడుదలైన నేపథ్యంలో.. హిందీ వెర్షన్ మాత్రం ప్రైమ్ వీడియోలో ప్రసారం చేయబడదు,  సెప్టెంబర్ 2న సీతా రామం హిందీ వెర్షన్ థియేటర్లలో విడుదలైన విషయం తెలిసిందే. హిందీ ప్రేక్షకులు కూడా ఈ చిత్రాన్ని ఎంతగానో మెచ్చుకుంటున్నారు. అలాగే అక్కడి ప్రేక్షకులు మరియు విమర్శకులు ఈ చిత్రానికి మంచి రివ్యూలు ఇచ్చారు. ఈ చిత్రం బాక్సాఫీస్ వద్ద దాదాపు 90 కోట్ల గ్రాస్ ను వసూలు చేయడానికి దగ్గర్లో ఉంది.


సీతా రామం సినిమాలో దుల్కర్, మృణాల్ లతో పాటు నేషనల్ క్రష్ రష్మిక మందన్న, తరుణ్ భాస్కర్, సుమంత్ కూడా ఇతర ముఖ్య పాత్రల్లో నటించారు. హను రాఘవపూడి ఈ చిత్రానికి రచయితతో పాటు దర్శకుడుగా తన తొలి సూపర్ హిట్ ను అందుకున్నారు. ఇక వైజయంతీ మూవీస్‌ బ్యానర్ ఈ చిత్రం ద్వారా మరో క్లాసిక్ చిత్రాన్ని తమ ఖాతాలో జమ చేసుకుంది. ఈ చిత్రానికి విశాల్ చంద్రశేఖర్ మనసులను కదిలించే సంగీతం అందించగా.. అవి తెర మీద కూడా అంతే అందంగా ఉండి సినిమాకి ప్రాణంలా నిలిచాయి.

Right from the release of its teasers and trailer, Sharwanand’s Oke Oka Jeevitham has come across as a unique subject with a different treatment. The concept appears to be a solid combination of feel-good drama and engaging sci-fi. Can Sharwanand make a strong comeback with this different concept? What exactly is Oke Oka Jeevitham all about? Let’s find out.

Story: Adi (Sharwanand) is a singer who is gifted but lacks in confidence. Seenu (Vennela Kishore) is a real estate broker with his own professional issues while Chaitu (Priyadarshi) rejects every marriage proposal looking for the perfect one. The three are childhood friends who come across a quantum physicist Paul (Nasser) who gives them a solution for their problems- time travel. What happens next? Does the trio find the solution to their issues of the present? This is what the plot follows.

Performances: Sharwanand has yet again given a stable and mature performance as a musician with childhood trauma. He portrays complex emotions in quite a convincing manner and is quite convincing in his role. Ritu Varma as Sharwanand’s supportive girlfriend good in her limited role. Vennela Kishore and Priyadarshi add great value to the film’s first half through their comic timing and provide great entertainment throughout. Vennela Kishore in particular has yet again showcased solid acting skills not just in comedy but in other aspects as well. Amala’s performance and screen presence is one of the biggest highlights of the film and will surely touch the emotional chord of the audience.

Analysis: Time travel is quite a tricky subject to deal with and slight oversight can bring the entire plot crumbling down. Shree Karthick has tried to hold the film together in most parts but their are slight logical slip-ups in some parts that will make the audience question the writing. The screenplay is slightly slow to begin with and takes some time to actually come to the point. However, once the actual plot begins, its a breezy ride for all. The unique combination of comedy, emotions and science fiction has worked out quite well for Oke Oka Jeevitham.

Verdict: Oke Oka Jeevitham is a great concept with all the ingredients of a successful film. The biggest strength of the film is its uniqueness and credits must be given to Sharwanand and Shree Karthick for standing behind such a concept. With proper word of mouth, the film will certainly attract audience in great numbers. Sci fi + comedy + emotions have worked out quite well here.

భారతీయ సినీ రంగంలో అతి పెద్దదైన పరిశ్రమగా హిందీ చలనచిత్ర పరిశ్రమ గురించి చెప్పుకుంటారు.. ప్రేక్షకులు అందరూ ముద్దుగా బాలీవుడ్ అని పిలుచుకుంటారు. అయితే బాలీవుడ్ పరిస్థితి గత కొంత కాలంగా ఏమీ బాగోలేదు. ఏ సినిమా కూడా బాక్సాఫీస్ వద్ద సరైన విధంగా ప్రభావం చూపలేకపోతున్నాయి. లాల్ సింగ్ చడ్డా వంటి పెద్ద సినిమాలు కూడా ప్రేక్షకులను థియేటర్లలోకి రప్పించలేకపోయాయి. బహిష్కరణ ప్రచారం ట్రెండ్‌గా మారకముందే, బాలీవుడ్ సినిమాలు ఆకట్టుకోలేకపోయాయి.

అయితే బాలీవుడ్ సినిమాలు పనిచేయకపోవడానికి ప్రధాన కారణం స్క్రిప్ట్‌లో సరైన కంటెంట్ లేదా సహజమైన వాతావరణం లేకపోవడమే. అక్షయ్ కుమార్ నటించిన బెల్ బాటమ్, లక్ష్మి, బచ్చన్ పాండే వంటి సినిమాలు బాక్సాఫీస్ వద్ద అట్టర్ ఫ్లాప్ అయ్యాయి. కాగా బెల్ బాటమ్ సినిమా థియేటర్ల పరిస్థితి ఇంకా మెరుగవని రోజుల్లో వచ్చింది. కానీ బచ్చన్ పాండే మాత్రం అన్ని సినిమాలు మామూలుగా ఆడుతున్న రోజుల్లోనే వచ్చి పరాజయం పాలయింది.

ఆ తరువాత బాలీవుడ్ కు కొత్త సమస్య పుట్టుకొచ్చింది. పిచ్చి పిచ్చి కారణాలతో సోషల్ మీడియా యూజర్లు, నెటిజన్లు బాలీవుడ్ చిత్రాలను బహిష్కరించడం ప్రారంభించారు. అమీర్ ఖాన్ సినిమా లాల్ సింగ్ చద్దాను లక్ష్యంగా చేసుకున్నారు. అలాగే అక్షయ్ కుమార్ నటించిన రక్షా బంధన్ సినిమాని కూడా బహిష్కరించాలని పిలుపునిచ్చారు. అయితే ఈ రెండు చిత్రాలు కూడా ప్రదానంగా సినిమాలో సరైన విషయం లేకపోవడం వల్ల విఫలమయ్యాయి. అయితే ఎలాగూ వీటికి కలెక్షన్లు రాకపోవడంతో బాయ్కాట్ బ్యాచ్ మా వల్లే ఈ సినిమాలు ఆడలేదని తప్పుడు ప్రచారం జరుపుకున్నారు.

అంతటితో ఆగకుండా ఇప్పుడు విడుదలయ్యే దాదాపు ప్రతి సినిమాని కూడా ఏదో ఒక కారణంతో బహిష్కరించాలని పిలుపునివ్వడం మొదలు పెట్టారు. ఈ ధోరణి మరీ అతివాద తరహాలో ఉంది. భారతదేశ సంస్కృతిని ప్రేమిస్తున్నాము అని చెబుతూ అనవసరమైన రాద్ధాంతం చేస్తూ నెగటివిటీని పెంచుతున్నారు. తాజాగా ఈ వారం విడుదలవుతున్న బ్రహ్మాస్త్ర సినిమాని బహిష్కరించాలని నెటిజన్లు నిర్ణయించుకున్నారు. ఈ ట్రెండ్ మొదలయినప్పటి నుండీ కరణ్ జోహార్ ను లక్ష్యంగా చేసుకున్నారు కాబట్టి ఇప్పుడు తమ తడాఖా చూపించాలని వారు అనుకుంటున్నారు. కానీ వారి అంచనాలకు భిన్నంగా సినీ ప్రేమికులు బ్రహ్మాస్త్ర సినిమాకి అద్భుతమైన బుకింగ్స్ తో సహకరిస్తున్నారు.

బాలీవుడ్‌ ఇండస్ట్రీని తిరిగి విజయపథంలోకి దూసుకువెళ్లేలా చేసే సినిమా బ్రహ్మాస్త్ర మాత్రమేనని ఇండస్ట్రీ మరియు ట్రేడ్ వర్గాలు భారీ ఆశలతో ఉన్నాయి. కానీ కొన్ని వర్గాలు మాత్రం ఈ బాయ్కాట్ ట్రెండ్ వల్ల సినిమా కలెక్షన్లు దెబ్బతినే అవకాశం ఉందని ఆందోళన చెందుతున్నాయి.

అయితే సినిమా కంటెంట్ బాగున్నంత కాలం, ప్రేక్షకులు ఆ సినిమాలని ఖచ్ఛితగా ఆదరిస్తారు. అలాంటి సినిమాలను ఏ బాయ్కాట్ ట్రెండ్ కూడా ఏమీ చేయలేదనేది నిజం.

గత కొన్ని సంవత్సరాలుగా, భారతీయ సినీ పరిశ్రమల మధ్య ప్రాంతీయ హద్దులు తొలగిపోయి ప్యాన్-ఇండియా సినిమా అనే కొత్త సినిమా పుట్టుకొచ్చింది. ఆ క్రమంలో ఇప్పుడు విడుదలయ్యే దాదాపు ప్రతి చిత్రం అన్ని భాషలలోకి డబ్ చేయబడి, మొత్తంగా ఐదు భాషలలో విడుదల అయ్యే కొత్త సంస్కృతి మొదలయింది. అదే క్రమంలో పాన్-ఇండియా స్టార్స్ అనే కొత్త పదం కూడా ఏర్పడింది.
