Dayaa is a web series starring JD Chakravarthy in the lead role. With this, he is being introduced to the OTT world. Directed by Pavan Sadineni. The series is made in Telugu, and it has been translated into Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, Marathi and Bengali languages as well. The series is streaming on Disney Plus Hotstar. Let’s get to know how it has been shaped up.

Story: Daya (JD Chakravarthy) is a freezer van driver who transports fish. His wife Alivelu (Eesha Rebba) is pregnant. Daya, who goes to work one day, gets involved in a big trouble as Unexpectedly, a dead body is seen in his van. Whose body is it? How did that body get into Daya’s van? What is the relationship of Daya with noted journalist Kavitha, and local MLA Penmatsa Parashurama Raju (Bablu Prithviraj)? What are the hidden secrets in Daya’s past life? Answers to these questions form the rest of the story.

Analysis: The way the series starts it looks like another regular crime drama, but as we move forward, the depth of the story develops well. JD Chakravarthy’s character gets introduced in the role of an ordinary driver. Initially, there are some unnecessary scenes, the sequences of Ramya Nambeesan and Kamal Kamaraju’s life and scenes that show the way the news channels behave look ordinary. But as said above, the series keeps getting interesting as it progresses.

The twists and the way they were presented creates more interest in the proceedings. Director Pavan Sadineni has shot the scenes in a very detailed manner without excluding even the smallest things. The first four episodes build the interest. From the fifth episode onwards, the drama in the series gets on to the next level. The well-placed twists raise more curiosity about the story. Although the backstory of the principal character and others do not get fully revealed, the narrative was able to hold the interest and made the viewers wait for the second season with a powerful tease at the end. Also, the music and cinematography departments were excellent and became a part of the narrative. 

Performances: JD Chakravarthy has played his role very methodically. He also showed the glimpse of “Satya” in his performance. JD’s performance took many scenes in the series to another level. While he looked so natural as an innocent and frightened guy, the way he acted in action sequences was awe-inspiring. Eesha Rebba had little scope, but she made her presence felt. Josh Ravi was terrific. Ramya Nambeesan was good while Vishnupriya Bheemaneni, Bablu Prithviraj, and Kamal Kamaraju were fine.
