Megastar Chiranjeevi’s Bhola Shankar released earlier today amidst great anticipation from the fans. While the film hasn’t been able to generate massive buzz like Chiranjeevi’s movies usually do, all eyes were on the initial talk which could help the movie attract the audience in the coming days of the weekend.

The movie opens with a very average start at the box office in all territories. Normally all the early morning shows of Chiranjeevi movies will register housefuls. But, for Bhola Shankar, the lack of general interest and Meher Ramesh’s weak filmography meant that the same couldn’t be repeated. The same was the issue with the USA premiers which was around $300K- a disappointing number.

Coming to the general talk, the movie opened with below-par feedback from the audience with the 1st half in particular carrying bad reports and 2nd half carrying average one. – The movie overall has two good action episodes. The overall report is below average. The movie has received mostly poor reviews with Megastar’s performance in parts being the only saving grace in this outdated story handled by Meher Ramesh.

Prabhas’s Adipurush is now streaming on two OTT platforms

The mythological epic of Prabhas, Kriti Sanon and Om Raut’s Adipurush has now made its OTT debut. Released in theaters on June 16th, the film was surrounded by massive expectations for its box office performance. However, Adipurush failed to reach the expectations and the collections dropped after a superb first weekend at the box office. The film had locked its OTT partner even before the theatrical release, and now it is streaming on two major OTT platforms.

The movie’s digital rights are bagged by the OTT giants Amazon Prime Video and Netflix, and it has to be noted that the film made it to the OTT from 8 weeks of theatrical release. Adipurush is streaming in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam languages on Amazon Prime Video while the Hindi version is streaming on Netflix.

Adipurush is produced on a massive scale by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Om Raut, Prasad Sutar and Rajesh Nair of Retrophiles. People Media Factory is bringing the movie to the Telugu audience. At first, Adipurush unit had faced a lot of criticism for the poor VFX in the teaser, which resulted in the hype around the movie getting derailed. However, the team had slowly created a positive buzz for the film with aggressive promotions. Especially songs like Jai Shri Ram and Ram Siya Ram have helped the film immensely in reversing the backlash that it received initially.

Directed by Om Raut, ‘Adipurush’ stars Prabhas as Lord Ram, Kriti Sanon as Janaki, and Saif Ali Khan as Raavan, Sunny Singh as Lakshman and Deva Dutta Nage as Lord Hanuman. Ajay Atul are the music directors for this movie. The film was released in theaters worldwide on 16th June 2023.

Story: Shankar (Chiranjeevi) comes to Calcutta with his sister Mahalakshmi (Keerthy Suresh) and he works as a taxi driver. Shankar wants to educate his sister and provide her with a better future. He meets Lawyer Lasya (Tamannaah) and gets Mahalakshmi engaged to her brother (Sushant). In a shocking turn of events, Shankar murders a few criminals involved with the women’s trafficking case. Why does Shankar kill those criminals? What is the connection to Shankar and his sister with the mafia gang? Answers to these questions form the rest of the story.

Analysis:

It is a well-known fact that the film, Bhola Shankar is a remake of the Tamil blockbuster Vedalam. The film was released almost a decade back, so obviously the script would become outdated by now. So to make this remake an engaging experience, it needs a tight screenplay with packed commercial elements like a good album and captivating action sequences. Bhola Shankar clearly lacks them.

Director Meher Ramesh was not successful in making Bhola Shankar as a perfect commercial entertainer. The first half starts on an ordinary note and continues to go in the same flow. The comedy track involving Vennela Kishore and Annie master does not work whatsoever and irritates to the core. Chiranjeevi’s combination scenes with Tamannaah and Sushant were alright. The interval episode was somewhat impactful, but it could have been much better.

After a relatively below – par first half, The second half starts off on a better note. The introduction of Chiru in the second half and followed by the title song were impressive. The emotional thread of brother and sister worked out in the flashback. The scenes towards the climax follow a regular path and do not offer much intrigue.

Performances: Chiranjeevi looked too good on screen and his performance was fine in the title role. If only his character had been etched more powerful and intense, the overall effect might have been better. Keerthy Suresh was also fine while Tamannaah Bhatia, Sushant and other many artists were ok.

Plus Points:

  • Flashback portions in the second half

Minus Points:

  • Outdated Story 
  • Weak Direction
  • Flat narration

Verdict:

Overall, Bhola Shankar is a routine commercial entertainer with a very ordinary package. A relatively better second half and Chiranjeevi’s screen presence work for the film, while ineffective direction, old-fashioned screenplay and weak music work as minus points. The film cannot be enjoyed by even the commercial movie lovers.

11 years after Oh My God, Akshay Kumar is ready with its sequel, OMG 2, which will be released tomorrow on worldwide screens. Alongside Akshay, Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam are also featured in the film. OMG 2 will compete with another sequel, Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2 at the box office. While the latter is cruising along to get a massive opening, the team of OMG 2 have arranged a special show for the press and the film is receiving sensational reviews.

The critics are going crazy after watching the film, and they have given sensational reviews for the film. They appreciate Akshay Kumar and team for coming up with such a brave concept and telling it very convincingly. This superb response from the press show will definitely help the film to get good collections.

Although the film’s concept caused controversy with the censor board, the OMG 2 team was able to get certified by complying with some modifications after all the drama. OMG 2 was certified A – Adult Only with an approved run time of 2 hours and 36 minutes.

Another positive point for OMG 2 is that bookings are distributed throughout the weekend, which is again an indication of the interest in audiences in the film. Let’s see how these rave reviews from the special show will help the film at the box office.

Bhola Shankar’s Producer has finally got much needed relief as all the legal issues of the film have been cleared, and it is all set to be released in theaters tomorrow. The court dismissed a petition filed by distributor Vizag Satish alias Battula Suryanarayana seeking a stay on the release of Bhola Shankar’s film. Producer Anil Sunkara has got a massive relief with the decision of court.

Distributor Vizag Satish filed a case on producer Anil Sunkara that he ignored the agreement of giving him the next two films after Agent’s failure. This controversy became huge when he approached the court to put a stay on the release of Bhola Shankar until the dispute was resolved.

According to the petition filed by Battula Satyanarayana alias Vizag Satish in the court, he had paid Rs 30 crore for the theatrical rights of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka for the distribution of the movie, Agent. Anil Sunkara had also signed an agreement with the film distribution company Gayatri Devi Films. So, Satish along with his friends paid 30 crores in the form of white money through a bank account for the theatrical rights. But at the time of the release, only vizag district rights were given to them and the agreement was sabotaged according to Satish.

So they assured him of compensation and even provided an undertaking letter. After taking the letter, Gayatri Satish believed he will get his money back. AK Entertainments also gave him the rights to the recent blockbuster Samajavaragamana, but Gayatri Satish could recover only some amount of his losses.
