Bhola Shankar opening numbers are lesser than Nani’s Dasara

Megastar Chiranjeevi’s Bhola Shankar has been a disappointing fare at the box-office with several fans openly expressing their dismay at yet another remake from the Megastar. The film was clouded with doubts over its box-office right from the day it was announced but there was some hope that Megastar’s box-office pull might help in recovering the business. However, Meher Ramesh’s routine direction, predictable and outdated story, and lack of an exciting screenplay ensured that the film had very few takers.

The opening day itself sealed the fate of the film and while there were some housefuls owing to Megastar, overall it didn’t register box-office numbers as expected. In fact, Chiranjeevi’s Bhola Shankar collected lesser than Nani’s Dasara on the opening day. While Bhola Shankar did an opening day worldwide business of Rs 18.08 crores, the Nani starter registered a solid Rs 19.38 crores on its Day 1. The dismal performance of Bhola Shankar should be an eye-opener for the Megastar, who should now seek to work in direct films which have substantial story and scope for performance. Remakes occasionally might benefit the stars, but the stardom can only be sustained with originality.

Superstar Rajinikanth’s Jailer has got off to a superb start at the box office thanks to positive word of mouth and reviews. The film was ably aided by Anirudh’s terrific background music, Nelson’s characteristic dark humor laced with action and of course Superstar’s magnetic screen presence.

In contrast, Megastar Chiranjeevi’s Bhola Shankar which was released yesterday has not been able to impress the audience as well as the critics. Poor reviews and negative word of mouth have hindered Bhola Shankar’s box office destiny in Telugu states. Bhola Shankar managed to run to some packed houses in some centres thanks to Megastar Chiranjeevi’s stardom. But an outdated story and weak presentation by Meher Ramesh means that the film will close its run sooner than expected.

Jailer has emerged as the go-to option for cine lovers across the Telugu states and the noon shows today have been sensational with advance bookings and projected occupancies across the weekend showing great signs for the makers. All biggies aiming for early summer release, big competition for NTR’s Devara?

NTR’s upcoming film, Devara’s team has announced long back that the movie will be released on 5th April 2024. The fans of NTR felt delighted with the release date as it is a blockbuster date with continuous holidays for 2 weeks. They felt that their favorite hero’s film will have a solo biggie release but the release weekend being such a big one it was inevitable for other star heroes films to come on the same date.

Also, with the continues changes in the other film’s release dates, it is likely for NTR’s Devara to have competition. It is obvious that other big films also want to cash in on by releasing their film in the huge season.

Top producer Dil Raju aims to release his big film Game Changer, starring Ram Charan and directed by Shankar on March end or April 1st week. Megastar Chiranjeevi is also aiming to release his film with Kalyan Krishna on the same period.

Allu Arjun and Sukumar’s Pushpa 2 is also planning for Summer release. Needless to say that this film has a massive hype so any film releasing along it will get affected at the box office. The recent reports strongly suggest that Pawan Kalyan’s massively hyped up project OG, which was supposed to be released in December, is now postponed to April 2024.

Sunny Deol has delivered the biggest hit of his career after 40 years of his debut in the industry with Betaab. Gadar 2, the sequel to his 2001 blockbuster film Gadar, made Rs 40 crore net on its opening day i, as per the trade circles. Gadar 2 has shocked the entire trade and off to a sensational start at the box office.

Though the film was expected to gather good numbers at the box office due to the sequel craze, no one expected this rage at the box office from this blockbuster sequel. Truly, the film has set the box office on fire. In mass Centers the film opens bigger than Shah Rukh Khan’s P Pathaan which is a sensational feat. Overall the film opened with 40 Crores net on day 1.

This unexpected storm of Gadar 2 has affected OMG 2, Akshay Kumar’s film which was released in competition with Sunny Deol starrer. Despite positive reviews, OMG I has just collected around 10 Crores net on opening day.

We know about the recent equation of Andhra Pradesh government with the mega brothers, Chiranjeevi and Pawan Kalyan. Pawan Kalyan was always against the govt as he owned a political party, while Chiranjeevi was in the good books of them but because of his recent political comments at a movie event, now he is also being targeted by the government.

Bhola Shankar the recent film of Chiranjeevi was denied a Ticket Hike of RS 25 by the Andhra Pradesh government. Though the govt stated that the team of Bhola Shankar was unable to produce the required documents, everyone understood that they have denied the ticket hike only because of the comments made by Chiranjeevi.

Now if we on one side, Chiranjeevi and Pawan Kalyan fighting against the government by involving in the remarks regarding remunerations, permission of ticket hikes and other aspects, but the sad part is the same heroes have done cheap quality films just for record remunerations. A 2/3rd part of the budget of their films is going for their remunerations alone.

So Chiranjeevi and Pawan Kalyan should understand that they need to do good quality films and make sure that the buyers do not lose investing in them. They are making films like Bro and Bhola Shankar and fighting against the government on ticket hike and remuneration issue which is not good.

Story: Surya (Sri Simha) has been afraid of high places since childhood. It often haunts him. After a few insults, he wants to become a pilot. On his first plane journey, he works under the leadership of his senior captain (Gautam Menon). Surya reveals the story of his bike Ustad and his love story to his captain during the journey. How did his love story with Meghana (Kavya Kalyan Ram) and what is his connection with his favorite bike, Ustad? How did those two affect his life? Why did Surya become a pilot? Does his love story end on a positive note? Answers to these questions form the rest of the story.

Analysis:

The film starts with the hero’s childhood portions, and then introduces Hero as a pilot and after that goes into the flashback which shows his life journey. The college episodes were ordinary and did not evoke much impact. But the narrative starts to get interesting when the connection between the hero and bike develops. Also, the love track between the lead pair starts well, entertains as much it can, but it gets predictable as it progresses. The problems in their love life are usual but the ending scene in their track at the pre climax was stronger where the director entangles the emotion of the hero with the bike and heroine.

The hero’s equation with his mother was neatly presented while his evolution (the paragliding scene) was not properly depicted, which could have helped to portray his ambition and self-transformation. The film required much better sequences in showing his struggles in the aviation academy. The Climax episode was also not satisfactory as the tensed atmosphere was not created well.

Performances: Simha Koduri was good, and he has got such a character which had a lot of depth, he was able to convey the impulsiveness and emotions in key scenes. Kavya Kalyan Ram was too good. Anu Haasan, Gautam Menon,and Ravindra Vijay were very well suited to their roles.

Plus Points:

Minus Points:

  • Slow pace
  • Boring parts in the second half
  • Climax

Verdict:

Overall, Ustaad is not a regular commercial entertainer. The main plot, few fascinating sequences and emotional parts work for it, while the slow pace, dragged moments in the latter half and disappointing climax do not work in favor of the film. The film can be watched if one can let go the boring moments.

Prabhas planning to take a long break from shooting for a surgery

If the inside reports are to be believed, Prabhas is planning to take a long break from film shooting this year-end for knee surgery. He will participate in his upcoming film, Salaar’s promotions and simultaneously work for Project K shoot part as well. Prabhas’s shooting part for the film is expected to be completed by November. After November end or early December, he will reportedly take a long break from shooting.

The inside reports of prabhas facing health issues is worrying his fans. These stories are causing concern in the fans. Prabhas, who took five years for the Baahubali series, also made his next film Saaho very slowly. Being his close production house, there was no pressure on him. However, the fans demanded that as he should make at least one film in a year. Now he had a release in. June in the form of Adipurush and within three months his next film, Salaar will be released.

We know that he is acting in another big project under the direction of Nag Ashwin. The film was popular as Project K, and recently, it got changed to Kalki 2898 AD. Apart from this, the shooting of another film with director Maruthi is also going on. Prabhas also announced a film with Arjun Reddy fame Sandeep Reddy Vanga, titled Spirit.
