Mayasabha Web Series Review: A Well-Made Political Drama

0

Web Series Name: Mayasabha
Rating: 3/5
Cast: Aadhi Pinisetty, Chaitanya Rao Madadi, Sai Kumar, Divya Dutta, Tanya Ravichandran, Ravindra Vijay, Shatru, and others
Created by: Deva Katta
Streaming on: Sony Liv

Mayasabha—The Rise of the Titans is the latest web series from director Deva Katta, streaming on Sony Liv. The subject itself is so interesting that everyone was eager to see how the lives of Chandra Babu and Rajasekhar Reddy are shown in a fictional tone. Let’s see how this series has been made in our review.

Story:

The journey in Mayasabha revolves around two smart men, Kakarla Krishnama Naidu (KKN) hailing from Narsipalli and MS Rami Reddy (MSR) from Pulicherla in Andhra Pradesh.

After a few years, they run into each other again and choose to team up for their political party. Despite their different castes, backgrounds, and beliefs, they still become important leaders. The show digs into the political situation that drives them apart and how the entry of cinema superstar Rayapati Chakradhar Rao (RCR) changes their path.

Performances:

Aadhi Pinisetty and Chaitanya Rao Madadi bring their characters to life convincingly. Their performances take so many moments up a notch, and Sai Kumar, despite coming in later, definitely leaves a great mark.

Divya Dutta does a great job as the Iron Lady; her character might not be fully explored, but she definitely leaves a mark. Tanya Ravichandran, Ravindra Vijay, Shatru, and the rest fit perfectly

Analysis:

Mayasabha comes from the talented director Deva Katta, known for his acclaimed film Prasthanam. He brings up a pretty hot topic involving two well-known politicians from Andhra Pradesh, Chandra Babu Naidu and the late YS Rajasekhar Reddy.

Deva tells the tale of two young leaders who start as best buddies but find themselves on opposite sides of the political spectrum, featuring some made-up events and characters.

The show tells the story of politicians from their childhood, covering why they got into politics, their family history, the challenges they faced, and what pushed them to make that big move. The story kicks off strong, but it kind of drags in the middle episodes.

The love stories of both heroes fall flat, and they could’ve done a better job with the emergency and forced vasectomy scenes.

Those friendship scenes bring back the excitement, and their political journey with the puppet CM stuff and Ira Vasu keeps things entertaining. The introduction of characters such as RCR and Shivaji Rao spices things up, plus the way RCR and Ira Vasu’s rivalry kicks off is quite fascinating.

Still, Deva Katta should have made RCR’s political entrance a lot more heartfelt. The showdown moments and the characters’ emotional ups and downs needed a lot more depth. The last episode felt a little fast-paced, but that conclusion sets us up for some serious drama ahead in later seasons.

Positives:

  • Main Plot
  • Performances
  • First Three Episodes
  • Powerful Dialogues/Scenes

Negatives:

  • Weak Middle Portions
  • A Few Exaggerated/Dramatic Sequences
  • Too Much Cinematic Liberty

Mayasabha Review and Verdict:

Deva Katta’s Mayasabha is a well-made political drama based on real-life persons in a fictional setup. Though the mismatch with reality and some tedious or exaggerated parts work against it, the series benefits from natural performances, effective dialogues, and standout moments.

Rajinikanth and Lokesh Kanagaraj’s action drama, Coolie, is getting massive hype among audiences, which is evident in its advance ticket sales. Coolie goes wild in North America with its premieres’ pre-sales.

The much-awaited star-studded film joins the 1.5 million club on the opening day with pre-sales alone. Below is the list of Kollywood films that opened with more than $1.5M on opening day in North America.

  • Kabali—$2.73M
  • Leo – $2.53M
  • PS1 – $2.14M
  • PS2 – $1.76M
  • Jailer—$1.57M (USA only)
  • Coolie – $1.55M (7 days to release)
  • GOAT – $1.51M

Rajinikanth-Lokesh Kangaraj’s Coolie goes wild in North America with its premiere ‘pre-sales, and it is on track to deliver Kollywood’s 1st 3M opening, and there are even chances for a 3.5M start.

The occupancies are strong for the film, but it suffers from screen count, as another big movie, War 2, is releasing on the same day.

It is widely known that King Nagarjuna plays the villain role in Coolie, which also features Bollywood star Aamir Khan, Kannada star Upendra, Malayalam actor Shoubin Shahir, and leading lady Shruti Haasan.

Pooja Hegde makes a special appearance in a song, Monica, which is already a super hit. The film features music by Anirudh Ravichander. Sun Pictures is behind Coolie, which is set to hit theaters around the globe on August 14.

A Golden Decade of Mythri Movie Makers

0

Mahesh Babu’s Srimanthudu completes 10 years of its theatrical release today, i.e., July 7. This date also marks the first release of the production house, Mythri Movie Makers, who complete a golden decade.

The Mythri Team started production with Mahesh’s Srimanthudu, which was released 10 years back, and with the debut itself, they scored a sensational, non-Baahubali industry hit blockbuster.

Mythri Movie Makers emerged as a big Production House in the last decade

After that, they went on to deliver the biggest blockbusters like Rangasthalam, Janatha Garage, Uppena, the Pushpa series, Waltair Veerayyaa, Veera Simha Reddy, Sarkaru Vaari Paata, and the Mathu Vadalara series in Telugu.

Mythri Movie Makers completed a golden decade in the film industry, and they did not limit themselves to Telugu production and expanded the network to distribution and exhibition and turned into the biggest network in Tollywood.

The production house also expanded to Kollywood with Good Bad Ugly and Bollywood with Jaat. Now, with multiple projects in the pipeline, they have undoubtedly emerged as the number one production house of Tollywood over the decade.

War 2 Dance Number Disappoints

0

NTR and Hrithik Roshan’s War 2 somehow does not carry the expected buzz among audiences. There were huge expectations for the film’s song that features two leads, but the War 2 dance number disappoints.

Made as the sixth movie of YRF’s Spy Universe, the film sees average advance bookings, as the promotional content does not live up to the expectations, especially for Telugu audiences, who miss the wow factor in the film.

The makers released the promo of the most exciting dance number today, which also falls flat before the expectations. Hrithik Roshan and NTR’s War 2 dance number disappoints with its regular theme.

The song’s overall setup, even the dance moves, looks very ordinary. Everyone expected a Naatu Naatu kind of dance number, but this is a completely different one and misses the required spark.

Now, the entire buzz of the War sequel in Telugu relies only on the NTR brand, which alone will definitely not be enough for the film to see huge openings as it competes with Rajinikanth-Lokesh’s Coolie, releasing on the other side.

Hari Hara Veera Mallu: Colossal Overseas Disaster

0

Pawan Kalyan’s Hari Hara Veera Mallu: Part 1— Sword vs. Spirit, released in theaters this July, resulted in a big box office failure. The film failed to generate star hero-level revenue after its first day. Moreover, Hari Hara Veera Mallu ends as a colossal disaster overseas.

Hari Hara Veera Mallu is one of the biggest disasters ever in Tollywood. The film faces huge losses in all areas. At least in the Telugu states, the film sees some respectable opening numbers.

However, when it comes to overseas, the film heavily disappointed from pre-bookings to closing. Pawan Kalyan’s Hari Hara Veera Mallu ends as a colossal disaster overseas.

In North America, the film closed at $1.22M, and total overseas closing collections are at $1.65M. For a big-budget film, and that too a Pawan Kalyan starrer, $1.65M in opening itself is a disappointing number.

Now, HHVM closed its run with 1.65M, which says how big a disaster it is at the box office.
