Thangalaan vs Raayan: Raayan Wins

Thangalaan starring Vikram released two days ago. The film had enjoyed a good hype with a holiday advantage release too. Thangalaan also opened with the career highest number for the lead actor, Vikram. Many thought Thangalaan vs Raayan will be evident from the opening day itself. But it looks Raayan has won this battle.

Raayan starring Dhanush had a great start at the box office on the opening day. In Tamil Nadu, Thangalaan took higher opening than Raayan. But Day 2 performance of Thangalaan saw a minor drip whereas Raayan held it very well on Day 2. Thangalaan is facing a big competition with other Tamil release, Demonte Colony 2. Looking at the current trend, it looks like grossing 100 crore will be tough for Thangalaan.

The problem with Thangalaan is it doesn’t appeal to all section of people unlike Raayan which impressed all. Raayan even went on to gross 150 crores worldwide. But Thangalaan with its limitative approach may not become a huge hit like Raayan. So, we’ll have to wait for The GOAT starring Vijay which will easily break Raayan’s record irrespective of the talk. Till then Raayan will enjoy the status of highest grosser of the year.

The GOAT Trailer: A Stunning Hit Or Total Miss

The trailer of Vijay’s GOAT has been released and it has certainly packed a powerful punch. The trailer featured Vijay in his usual swag where he’s introduced as a GOAT special agent. He has special expertise as a field agent, and hostage negotiator, and is introduced as the greatest SPY of the unit. The almost 3 minutes long GOAT trailer also featured Prashanth, Prabhu Deva, Sneha, Laila, and Meenakshi Chaudhary.

The GOAT trailer looks like an action extravaganza, and Vijay looks superb. Films like this usually have only two outcomes: they either stun or are completely unbearable. This is definitely not a regular commercial film and it needs to be seen which category it will fit in upon its release on 5th September.

The action-thriller has been touted to be the most expensive Tamil film of the year and features Vijay in a dual role. The film also features Prabhudheva and Prashanth, alongside actors such as Mohan, Ajmal Ameer, Meenakshi Chaudhary, Sneha, Laila, Vaibhav, Yogi Babu, Premgi Amaren, Yugendran, VTV Ganesh, and Aravind Akash.

Venkat Prabhu had earlier told the media that his film is a fictional story where Vijay plays a RAW agent. He said, “‘GOAT’ is a fictional story. But, we have made it closer to reality. Vijay and his core team are a part of the Special Anti-Terrorist Squad. It is a wing of RAW. What they did in past becomes a problem in the present. How Vijay and his core team face the challenges forms the story.”

Tollywood Actor, Prabhas has officially started his upcoming film with Hanu Raghavapudi today. The film will be set in 1940’s era where Prabhas plays the role of a soldier. The pooja ceremony was attended by some Tollywood dignitaries along with the production house, Mythri Movie Makers. Prabhas will also pair up with a newcomer, Iman Esmail. The Actress has stunned everyone in the ceremony.

Iman Esmail starred in few short films and this will be her first feature film. Hanu Raghavapudi is known for presenting heroines beautifully and audience expect the same from this girl as well. Pairing up with Prabhas who is riding high with Pan Indian craze is really a dream for many now. The Actress will become a big thing for sure in the future.

The film is also rumoured to be tentatively titled Fauji meaning Solider in Hindi. An official poster of the film has also been released by the Director. This is indeed a great news for the fans as they wanted to see Prabhas doing romantic genre films for a long time. The Actor has already lined up The Raja Saab which is a rom-com entertainer. Now, with this film Prabhas made them happy again.

Stree 2 Box Office: Real or Overhyped

Stree 2, recent Bollywood film took a sensational start at the Box Office. The film also took the biggest opening of the year and makers have officially declared it as the second biggest opener of Hindi Cinema ever. Stree 2’s Box office has really shocked everyone and no one expected it to perform this level on the opening day itself.

The trade analysts expected around 45 crores nett on the opening day but the walk-ins were huge. The film also had mid night premiere shows before the release day and crossed expectations then itself. Now, there are two arguments that one section of trade declared that Stree 2 opened with 55.4 crores nett but others reported it to be 50 crores nett. There is more than 5-6 crores difference in between these two trade reports. There will not be such difference generally for a film.

But if we consider any of these, then it is a sensational one for a film like Stree 2. The film’s hold on Day 2 was also super strong with more than 30 crores nett. Today’s Advance Bookings are even more strong with trade expecting it to be more than 40 crores nett. Sunday may even repeat Day 1 performance again. Overall, Stree 2 performance is surely a big relief for Bollywood which is going through a dull phase in the recent times.

Recently released Puri Jagannadh directorial, Double Ismart attained a complete negative talk and heading towards a big disaster status. There is a song in the film called Kya Lafda. This can be attributed to the mentality of Puri Jagannadh while directing this film. One definitely wonders Kya Lafda Puri Sir after watching Double Ismart.

The film clearly showed that Puri was completely stuck in Guns, Mafia and Sex. Ram calling Six as Sex, physical comments on heroine, Ali’s character shows that Puri showed only Sex and Hunting scenes. Sanjay Dutt’s character too used the same references. This is not the Puri Jagannadh he once was in the beginning. Story, Screenplay, Dialogues and his taking have fallen now. The impact that Puri Jagannadh used to give with this films has gone now.

Puri needs to take a big changeover from guns and sex genres which became boring for now. He may even try taking stories from other writers just like he did for Temper with Vakkantham Vamsi. In the pre-release event of Double Ismart, Puri said that V. Vijayendra Prasad requested him to narrate his stories before shooting them. It would be better for Puri to do this for a better output. The director should understand his strengths and weaknesses.

Official: Kalki 2898 AD arriving on OTT

Kalki 2898 AD’ caused a tremendous commotion when it was released due to the huge response it received from all over the world.The Nag Ashwin-directed film was praised for its technological sophistication and futuristic approach to Mahabharat. Not to mention, a star-studded cast like Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Deepika Padukone, and Prabhas is sure to excite. After almost 50 days in theaters, ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ is now poised to be released on OTT.

Set in a post-apocalyptic world in 2898 AD where nature has fled and darkness reigns supreme, this is the first movie in the Kalki Cinematic Universe. The entire collection of the film so far, up to Independence Day after 50 days, is Rs 646.4 crore.

Kalki 2989 AD, which broke records when it first opened in theaters on June 27, will begin streaming on Prime Video in India and over 240 countries and territories on August 22. Kalki is anticipated to break online streaming records as well.

All doors closed for Puri Jagannadh?

Double Ismart directed by Puri Jagannadh released yesterday. Fans and Audience had high expectations on the film before the release. But the film received negative talk and feedback from them. The opening day performance of the film, even with a holiday advantage of Independence Day looked not so encouraging. Today’s performance too looks the same and it also feels like the doors getting closed for Puri Jagannadh.

Puri Jagannadh’s earlier film, Liger was made on a high budget and sold for record prices. But it became one of the biggest disasters of Tollywood and also a nightmare for Puri. Puri, in order to recover the losses started making sequel for his blockbuster Ismart Shankar in the form of Double Ismart. He roped in Ram immediately who was also in a bad phase with disastrous performances of Skanda and Warrior.

Theatrical rights of Double Ismart have been sold for 54 crores worldwide. With this performance, the film looks unable to achieve even the breakeven mark let alone becoming a blockbuster like Ismart Shankar. Puri Jagannadh who wanted to overcome the heavy losses of Liger will have to meet even more losses with Double Ismart. Distributors and Exhibitors who earlier staged protest against him will come for him without any doubt. It needs to be seen how he tackles them.

Double Ismart and Mr. Bachchan: Huge Disasters!

Over a dozen Indian films have hit the big screens to exploit the long Independence Day weekend. Of them, Puri Jagannadh-Ram Pothineni’s Double Ismart and Ravi Teja’s Mr. Bachchan are the big releases from Telugu cinema.

Both of these flicks carried good expectations before release, but the word-of-mouth post-release came out to be mixed. Considering this, experts predicted a decent theatrical run in their first three days of theatrical run. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen. 

After posting poor numbers on day 1, these films crashed on the second day, and Sunday’s bookings are disappointing too. While Double Ismart’s worldwide share is likely to be around INR 15 crore, Mr. Bachan is struggling to make a double-digit share. Having said that, not even a 25% recovery will be made by these films, thus pushing distributors into heavy losses.
