Plagiarism Accusations On Kalki 2898 AD!

The entire country is now basking in the unparalleled euphoria of Kalki 2898 AD. Particularly in Telugu states, it is nothing short of a festival. The promotional content releases so far have worked well, and the film is expected to have an earth-shattering opening.

However, the makers are facing criticism for allegedly plagiarising the work of two Hollywood VFX artists. Going by the names Oliver Beck and Sung Choi, these artists have accused Vyjayanthi Movies of copying their work in the theatrical trailer.

They went on to state that they were approached to work on the film, but the deal didn’t materialise. What followed next was the makers using their art work without giving any credit to them. Disappointed with these acts, the VFX duo are sckeptical about working for Indian films in the future. Vyjayanthi Movies has yet to respond to this accusation.

Sai Dharam Tej’s Next Announced – Deets Inside

Sai Dharam Tej has been enjoying a good phase in his career, with back-to-back 100 crore grossers, Virupaksha (2023) and Bro (2023), under his belt. With an aim to continue the momentum, he has signed a high-octane action flick.

Tentatively titled #SDT18, it is written and directed by K. P. Rohith in his film debut. Sources confirm that this is touted as a pan-Indian project, with makers targeting audiences across the length and breadth of the country.

The film is bankrolled by K. Niranjan Reddy and Chaitanya Reddy under the banner ‘Prime Show Entertainment’. The project was announced with a stunning poster. The first schedule is slated to begin very soon.

Date Locked For Indian-2 Trailer Launch!

Titled Bhrateeyudu-2 in Telugu, Indian-2 is an upcoming vigilante film directed by legendary filmmaker Shankar Shanmugam. A sequel to Indian (1996), it features ‘Ulaganayagan’ Kamal Hassan reprising his role of ‘Senapathy’.

A teaser or glmipse from the film was already unveiled to mixed reactions from audiences. Now that the release date is only a few weeks away, the theatrical trailer is geared for release. According to sources, the cast and crew of Indian-2 will be part of a promotional event in Mumbai on June 25, 2024.

At the same venue, a trailer lasting 2 minutes and 36 seconds will be unveiled. With music composed by Anirudh Ravichander, in his first collaboration with Shankar, the film also stars Siddharth, S. J. Suryah, Rakul Preet Singh, Priya Bhavani Shankar, and Vivek. Indian-2 will hit the big screens on July 12, 2024.

Netflix gets into Popcorn business

Streaming giant Netflix has launched its own popcorn brand. Netflix has teamed up with popcorn company Popcorn Indiana for the snacks. The popcorn will be available in two flavours “Cult Classic Cheddar Kettle” and “Swoonworthy Cinnamon Kettle.” The Netflix-branded popcorn will be available at Walmart stores nationwide and at other retailers.

Interestingly, Netflix Popcorn’s pricing is higher than the monthly plan in several cases. Around 225 grams of popcorn will be available for 4.49 dollars (Rs 375). This is merely a branding exercise and the streaming giant has no plans as of now to expand to countries all across the world and be available for mass consumption.

Tollywood Actor, Pawan Kalyan ventured into politics but didn’t become an MLA for various reasons. He competed an MLA in 2019 for the first time but lost in both constituencies he had competed. This had hurt his fans and audiences as well. But he has succeeded recently by getting elected as an MLA in the recent AP assembly elections. He had an alliance with TDP which also contributed to his big success. Today marks a special day for Janasainiks (party workers & fans of Janasena party who refer to themselves as) as Pawan Kalyan took oath as an MLA in the Assembly.

Pawan Kalyan was also made the Deputy Chief Minister along with having a few ministries under his control. As said, his party won 21 seats in the Assembly elections. A few members of his party too were offered some ministries. One of them is Kandula Durgesh who took charge as the Cinematography Minister. He even met the Tollywood Actor and brother of Pawan Kalyan, Chiranjeevi yesterday. He even assured of working for the development of Tollywood.

It needs to be seen if Pawan Kalyan takes up acting in films from now. He already has three films in the pipeline which have been put on hold. The Actor will complete these films in the coming years. We have to see if he accepts any new film.

Chiranjeevi vs Balakrishna again

Chiranjeevi and Balakrishna remained the top heroes for many years in Tollywood. Both even clashed at the box office during the Sankranthi season. They still have the star power and box office stamina. They both as said had clashed two times during the Sankranthi season in recent years. However, it seems there will be a Chiranjeevi vs Balakrishna showdown again.

Chiranjeevi returned to films after a long break with Khaidi no 150 which clashed with Balakrishna’s 100th film Gautamiputra Satakarni during Sankranthi season. Both became big hits in their career. They both again clashed with Waltair Veerayya and Veera Simha Reddy last year during the Sankranthi season. Waltair Veerayya became a big blockbuster grossing more than 200 crores worldwide. Veera Simha Reddy managed to gross around 130 crores worldwide. But Chiranjeevi had the upper hand both times during this season.

Chiranjeevi’s Vishwambhara has been announced for the Sankranthi season next year and now it seems #NBK109 directed by Bobby is also being planned for the same season. It was originally planned for Christmas but Game Changer starring Ram Charan is said to be eyeing this slot. So if this happens, Chiranjeevi and Balakrishna will be facing off again at the box office.

Prabhas’ Kalki 2898 AD is now reaching towards record figures in overseas premieres and is poised to be a massive grosser. The film’s pre-release event was recently held in Mumbai with the entire starcast present and now all eyes are on Nag Ashwin’s next promotional event and the kind of opening the film will achieve at the global box office.

As Kalki 2898 AD makers quoted record prices, the distributors couldn’t meet the expectations and Aswini Dutt did not want to sell the film at a reduced price as he has good confidence in the film. All area rights of Kalki 2898 AD are done on an advance basis.

Overall, the Telugu states’ business ratio is in the range of 180 Cr. The rest of South India is around 50 Cr, North India is 100 Cr and overseas rights are valued at around 100 Cr. For breakeven, the film has to collect 430 Cr share, equivalent to around 800 Cr gross worldwide. So the film has to become bigger than Salaar and Baahubali 1 for hit status.

This Nag Ashwin project has managed to create great curiosity despite weak promotions and now all eyes are on the upcoming promotional content. The film has a star-studded cast with Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan essaying key roles.

S. S. Rajamouli’s RRR (2022) was a humongous success at the box office. Particularly in Telugu states, it holds every record in existence, quite literally. This can be accounted for by the incredible superstardom Charan, Tarak, and, of course, our beloved Jakkanna.

However, there’s one aspect of RRR that upset Telugu fandoms during its release: it is the team taking Telugu people for granted. While the filmmakers and actors have reached across the length and breadth of the country to promote their film in the form of events and attending talk shows, not a single event was held in Telugu states.

In spite of this, RRR had an earth-shattering opening at the ticket window. And now, it looks like Kalki 2898 AD is mimicking the same formula. Disappointing darling fans, the makers have scrapped the plans of conducting a pre-release event in Hyderabd, Amaravathi, or anywhere in Telugu states. A second trailer from the film is reportedly gearing up for launch tomorrow.

Manjummel Boys producers put Mollywood in big trouble

Malayalam film, Manjummel Boys created a sensation after its release. The film received a unanimous positive response and went on to gross more than 200 crores worldwide. It also stands as the highest-grosser of Mollywood. The film also performed very well in Telugu states along with the Tamil version. The Tamil dubbed version of Manjummel Boys grossed more than 60 crores worldwide. Now, it seems Majummel Boys producers have put Mollywood in big trouble for some reason.

Makers of Manjummel Boys have gotten into a dispute over profit sharing of the film. The film was released as a small-budgeted film and ended up becoming the highest-grossing film of Mollywood surprisingly. This seems to be the main reason behind these financial disputes. This has also triggered other makers to complain about the black money practices in Mollywood.

Now, the Kerala Government agencies have stepped in and all the films and makers for the last few years are under the scanner. Any financial irregularity would lead to big trouble for the makers. Manjummel Boys recently came into the limelight because of Maestro, Ilaiyarajaa’s copyright claim on the film. The veteran Music Director accused the team of using his song from Gunaa without his permission.

India’s biggest action film announced

Tollywood Director Gopichand Malineni has officially announced his Bollywood entry. The director has brought on board Veteran Bollywood Actor, Sunny Deol for the lead role for this film. Mythri Movie Makers and People’s Media Factory will produce this film and Thaman will be the music composer. The film, tentatively titled, #SDGM is poised to be India’s biggest action film as quoted by the Actor on his official X/Twitter account.

Sunny Deol is currently riding high with the success of Gadar 2, the sequel to Blockbuster Gadar. Initially, this film was planned with Ravi Teja but due to budget issues, the film is now said to be planned with Sunny Deol. Well, this is surely a great opportunity for Sunny Deol. He will continue his journey after a long break as a lead actor.

However, more details about the film haven’t come out. We need to see if the team goes ahead making it a bi-lingual or not. All the crew working for the film are mostly Tollywood-based. So there might be a chance of making it a bi-lingual as well. Gopichand Malineni will be the third director after Atlee to work with a lead Actor in Bollywood recently. On the other hand, Tamil Director, A.R. Murgugadoss has also started working on his Sikandar starring Salman Khan.
