Multiplex Association requests Government to change GST percentage on Movie Tickets

0

Since Prime Minister Narendra Modi rolled out updates to the GST system, a bunch of industries nationwide have started asking for tax breaks. Multiplex Association requests the government to change the GST percentage on movie tickets.

The Multiplex operators have jumped on the bandwagon of other industries, asking the government to rethink GST rates on movie tickets since they believe the current rates are way too high and are driving audiences away.

Multiplex Owners request change in GST Rates for Movie Tickets

The Multiplex Association of India (MAI), covering over 9,000 movie screens nationwide, is asking the government to change the GST rates to make going to the movies cheaper for everyone. MAI mentioned that this step will not just make movies cheaper for everyone, but it will also give a much-needed boost to an industry that’s been having a tough time since the Covid-19 pandemic.

The group recommended that tickets costing up to Rs 300 should fall under the lowest 5 percent GST rate, while those over Rs 300 can keep the 18 percent GST.

Right now, if a movie ticket costs more than Rs 100, it gets hit with an 18 percent tax, but tickets under Rs 100 only have a 12 percent GST. MAI suggests making some big changes to this threshold. Kamal Gianchandani, the MAI president, mentioned to the media that we suggest increasing the Rs 100 slab to Rs 300, meaning ticket prices up to Rs 300 should have a 5 percent GST, while anything over Rs 300 should face an 18 percent GST.

Gianchandani mentioned that the Rs 100 limit just doesn’t make sense anymore and highlighted that even after multiple requests to the Finance Ministry and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting for over seven years, nothing has changed. He said that the Rs 300 slab will make cinema tickets more affordable, he said, adding that it will also infuse confidence in the exhibition sector; the incumbent players need that boost in order to accelerate the growth rate.

The Ernakulam North Police have filed a case against actress Lakshmi Menon and three others for supposedly kidnapping and attacking a young IT worker in Kochi.

A techie from Aluva filed a complaint, leading to the registration of the case about their kidnapping and assault. The cops have already nabbed three suspects, and they are on the hunt for Menon, who’s still hiding out. Mithun, Aneesh, and Sonamol got arrested; they are all from Kochi and buddies of Menon.

Lakshmi Menon and her friends accused in a Kidnapping Case

The event related to the case took place on Sunday night at the Ernakulam North railway overbridge, where the suspects grabbed the complainant. According to the police, they believe the kidnapping was payback for a dispute that went down between the complainant’s friend and the actress’s group at a restobar in Kochi late Sunday night.

Actress Lakshmi Menon and her friends face charges such as kidnapping, wrongful restraint, verbal abuse, wrongful confinement, voluntarily causing hurt, and criminal intimidation under sections 140(2), 126, 296, 127(2), 115(2), 351(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The person who filed the complaint, wanting to stay anonymous, shared with media that it all started outside the restaurant when his friend confronted the actress’s friend, who allegedly caused a scene after arguing with one of their pals.

“They had too much to drink and started screaming at my friend. We rushed him back and exited the area to stop any more trouble. But they trailed us, stopped our car on the North overbridge, and one of them began banging on it. As soon as I stepped out to calm them down, they grabbed me and attacked me. The actress grabbed my phone and started yelling at me,” he shared.

Bigg Boss Telugu 9, hosted by Nagarjuna, is all set to have a grand launch in a few weeks, but it looks like the show has already started becoming a hot topic as a new controversy erupts already. Former Bigg Boss winner Kaushal accuses Bigg Boss Agni Pariksha and the judges involved in it.

As said above, the 9th edition of Telugu BB is starting soon, and the team came up with Agni Pariksha, a selection process to provide commoners an opportunity to be a contestant in the show. However, the selection process tasks are not going well with the audience, and Kaushal has spoken about it.

Kaushal Confronts Bigg Boss Telugu 9 Team

Kaushal is undoubtedly the most popular contestant ever from Bigg Boss. His game and attitude created ripples among the viewers, and the people even rallied for him on roads and supported him in a big way. No other contestant has received such huge love to date in the Telugu Bigg Show’s history.

While the Telugu Bigg Boss 9th season is going to start in another 15 days… So far, there is no clarity on who the contestants are, which shows how secretive the organizers are this time.

However, Nagarjuna had hinted that the syllabus has been completely changed in the new season. This time, the organizers have also given the opportunity to common people to participate in Bigg Boss. However, selecting only three people from the lakhs of applications has become a big problem for the organizers.

Bigg Boss Agnipariksha—An Exciting But Controversial Process

A program called Bigg Boss Agni Pariksha is being organized for the entry of commoners. After passing all kinds of filters, 40 common people are waiting for the opportunity. 15 of them will be selected for the final list through interviews and various tasks.

Bigg Boss Telugu Season 9 – Navdeep Under Public Scrutiny

The final selected contestants will be announced on the launch episode. Bigg Boss Telugu 4 winner Abhijith, Bigg Boss Non-Stop OTT winner Bindu Madhavi, and Bigg Boss Telugu 1 second runner-up Navdeep are the judges for the Agni Pariksha program, and the Bigg Boss Telugu season 3 runner-up Sreemukhi is the host.

In Monday’s episode, Navdeep’s words against contestant Sreeja became controversial. When she raised her hand, saying that the game was unfair, she was called on stage and criticized. Navdeep said to her, “You who came from the village and don’t have that much sense to say what is right and what is wrong.”

This erupted in a huge backlash from the viewers, as most of them felt that it was not at all appropriate behavior from the actor. After such huge reactions, he commented on his Instagram story, saying sorry.

Navdeep said, “I’m apologizing with love. If possible, please forgive me. I love you,” on Instagram with a heart symbol emoji.

Kaushal Supports Sreeja and Criticizes Navdeep – Viewers Too Support Him

This issue has been addressed by the former Bigg Boss Telugu winner, Kaushal Manda. He took to his Instagram and said that the selection tasks in Agni Pariksha are not good.

He said that the concept of the show looks like it is intended to insult commoners and make them not attempt to participate in such big shows. The former BB winner also said that the judges of Agni Pariksha should know that they were also commoners at one point and then became stars.

Kaushal criticizes the Bigg Boss Agni Pariksha’s process/concept, and he supports Sreeja, a commoner who is participating in the contest. Even the social media users support her, and they cheered for Kaushal and said that he should have been present on the judges’ panel, which would have made things interesting.

Sundarakanda Movie Review: A Clean Entertainer

0

Movie Name: Sundarakanda
Rating: 3/5
Cast:
Nara Rohith, Virti Vaghani, Sridevi Vijaykumar, Satya, Vasuki Anand, Naresh, Abhinav Gomatham and Others
Director: Venkatesh Nimmalapudi
Produced By:
Santhosh Chinnapolla, Gowtham Reddy, Rakesh Mahankalli
Release Date: 27th August 2025

Sundarakanda is the new Telugu entertainer starring Nara Rohith, Sridevi Vijaykumar, and Virti Vaghani in the main roles. Venkatesh Nimmalapudi directed the film, and it generated some good buzz before hitting theaters today. Let’s see how it holds up in our review.

Story:

Siddharth (Nara Rohith) wants to tie the knot with a woman who meets his five must-have qualities. He turns down a bunch of proposals for the same reason, but one day he meets a college girl named Aira (Virti Vaghani) who catches his interest and ticks all the boxes on his checklist. She also develops feelings for Siddharth following some captivating happenings. Just when things are looking up for Siddharth, he runs into an unexpected twist thanks to his school crush, Vaishnavi (Sridevi Vijaykumar). From here on, the story focuses on how Vaishnavi impacts Siddharth’s life and his way of coping with it.

Performances:

Nara Rohith does a good job in his role, though he looks a bit odd in songs. Virti Vaghani shines with her strong acting, and Sridevi Vijaykumar adds charm to her character. Satya’s humor is on point and really carries the movie, thanks to his great timing. Vasuki Anand plays the hero’s sister just right, plus Sunaina Badam, Abhinav Gomatam, and Naresh make their presence felt.

Analysis:

As a first-timer, Venkatesh Nimmalapudi takes on the film effortlessly, featuring a conflict that’s not your everyday kind. He keeps things moving and mostly avoids any boring parts. The opening scenes are pretty cool and have a fun vibe, and even though the romance is not anything special, it works well thanks to Satya’s comedic support as the hero’s buddy. The interval twist grabs attention and gets people curious about the second half.

The second half of Sundarakanda could have packed more emotional punch. The director kind of overlooked a few key moments, such as the twist involving Vaishnavi affecting the situations and the hero coming to terms with his checklist’s truth. But still, he impresses with the mix of comedy and drama and ends the film on a positive note.

Positives:

  • Exciting Conflict
  • Comedy Works For Most Part
  • A Few Key Scenes/Dialogues

Negatives:

  • Gets Predictable At A Few Places
  • Emotional Impact Could Have Been Better

Sundarakanda Movie Review and Verdict:

Sundarakanda is a clean entertainer. The film includes continuous humorous moments, notably from Satya, and offers an intriguing conflict. There are parts that fall flat, but it definitely makes for a good watch.

Case Filed Against Vijay

0

A man accused Vijay, the head of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), and his security team of manhandling him during a political event in Madurai, leading to a case being filed against him.

According to Sarath Kumar, he faced assault from Vijay’s bouncers while trying to get near the actor. The incident happened on August 21 at a rally set up by Vijay’s political party as they geared up for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

According to the complainant, the bouncers roughly pushed him away when he went to step onto the ramp where Vijay was. Kumar said he managed to grab onto a pipe, but he ended up with chest injuries from the fight.

Case filed against actor/politician Vijay

Authorities have charged the actor/politician and his bouncers with violations of sections 189(2), 296(B), and 115(I) from the Indian Penal Code. The fans are worried, as a case has been filed against Vijay.

These charges involve gathering unlawfully and helping with a crime that could lead to the death penalty or life in prison. Vijay kicked off his political party TVK in February last year and got named as the chief ministerial candidate for the next elections.

At a recent state conference, he said, “TVK is not a political game; it is an ideology,” the actor said.

Vijay’s political rallies are drawing in big crowds, showing how popular he is. On the flip side, people have criticized them as well.

A TVK worker passed away earlier this month after collapsing while heading to a rally in Madurai. The recent state conference in Parapathi, Madurai district, attracted tons of supporters and kicked off with cultural shows, flag raising, and promises from party leaders.

Kingdom OTT Disappoints

0

Vijay Deverakonda’s Kingdom is now streaming on Netflix in all languages: Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi. The film did not live up to the expectations in theaters, and it disappoints on its OTT arrival too.

Directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, the film received mixed responses in theaters, and many felt that the editing could have been better. Even the team officially said that they have trimmed many scenes for a crispy runtime.

But for audiences, the narration felt disjointed with deleted scenes in a big way, as many scenes missed the strong connection.

Because of that, everyone expects that the team will release an extended version on OTT, but the Kingdom OTT release disappoints fans and audiences, as the team releases the same theatrical version.

Coolie Doing Well in 2nd Week

0

After a record-breaking opening weekend, Rajinikanth’s Coolie sees a big drop on the 1st Monday. With that, everyone expected that the film would not see many numbers after the 1st week. However, the film is doing well in the 2nd week.

Yes, the film is not doing big numbers, but it is holding well with decent collections. In its 1st week, Coolie collected 428 Cr gross worldwide, and in the 2nd week, for 6 days, the film has collected around 60 Cr gross.

Coolie moves close to 500 Cr Number with good performance in the second weekend

Yesterday, the film collected slightly higher figures than Monday. Today, the film will take advantage of the Vinayaka Chaviti holiday and is likely to see good numbers. For 13 days, the film’s worldwide gross is close to 490 Cr, and it is set to join the 500 Cr club before the weekend starts.

With its good performance in the 2nd week, Coolie will see notable numbers on the weekend as well, as there are not many releases this weekend.

The action drama was initially expected to be a commercial failure. But now due to the hold in the second week, the film’s recovery crossed more than 80%, and it is expected to go more than 85% in the full run and will settle with an average status at the box office.

OG Off to a Record Breaking Start in America

0

The star films always carry good craze in Telugu cinema, but very few films carry much bigger craze like an event film due to combination or promotional content. Pawan Kalyan’s OG is one such film, and it is off to a record-breaking start in America.

Directed by Sujeeth, this action drama has created massive buzz among Telugu audiences. With this, the film does a record pre-release business, both theatrical and non-theatrical, and puts the producer in table profits.

In North America the advance bookings for the limited shows opened for premiers. Despite the one-month time for the release, a few shows have already registered house-full occupancies.

OG America bookings are off to a record-breaking start, as the advance bookings gross already crosses $50K within no time. At this trend the film is likely to achieve the break-even mark, which is around $3M, with premieres itself, or it will achieve the target by opening day for sure.

This is bringing the glory and real superstardom of Pawan Kalyan at the box office, much to the happiness of fans and trade.

Madhavan Leaves LCU?

0

Madhavan is a household name in the Tamil/Hindi and Telugu film industries as well. The fans were excited with him joining the cast of Lawrence’s Benz, which is a part of the Lokesh Cinematic Universe. However, they will be disappointed as Madhavan leaves LCU.

Madhavan Steps Out Of Benz and LCU

The next project from LCU is Benz, with Lawrence playing the lead role and Nivin Pauly appearing as the main villain. Madhavan was onboarded as another lead in this film.

But the latest news in Tamil circles says that Madhavan walks out of this project/LCU due to date issues, and Ravi Mohan is selected as the replacement.

Reportedly, Lokesh Kanagaraj himself has narrated the character and convinced Ravi Mohan to act in Benz, and his character is also said to be continued in the next LCU projects, such as Kaithi 2 and Vikram 2.

Ravi Mohan Joins LCU

Actor Ravi Mohan is all set to make his career resurge again. The latest news is that the actor joins the LCU (Lokesh Cinematic Universe) as he gets on board for Raghava Lawrence’s Benz.

It is widely known that Lokesh Kanagaraj is producing Benz, starring Lawrence, Madhavan, and Nivin Pauly (as the main villain).

Ravi Mohan’s addition marks the third star entry into the LCU (Lokesh Kanagaraj Cinematic Universe), with the other two being Lawrence and Nivin Pauly.

It is further being said that Ravi will appear in Kaithi 2 and Vikram 2—the Endgame of the Lokesh Universe.

Lokesh Kanagaraj disappointed everyone with Coolie, but he can make a solid comeback with the sequels of Kaithi and Vikram.
