Indian cinema mourns the loss of veteran actor Nana Patekar (75), who passed away early this morning at his home in Goa after suffering a sudden cardiac arrest.
Reportedly, he complained of severe chest pain around 4:30 AM. A medical team reached his flat and started emergency CPR before rushing him to Manipal Hospital in Dona Paula. Doctors tried for 45 minutes to revive him, but Nana Patekar was declared dead at 5:20 AM. A post-mortem is being conducted as part of standard legal procedure.
Born in Maharashtra in 1951, Patekar faced extreme financial hardships in his early years. He graduated from the Sir J.J. Institute of Applied Art and honed his craft doing intense Marathi theatre before transitioning to film. He made his acting debut with Gaman (1978), but his breakthrough came with Parinda (1989).
