Hailing from the city of Nagpur, Maharashtra, Mrunal Thakur has made a name for herself in Telugu cinema with just two films. Her Tollywood debut, Sita Ramam (2022), received critical acclaim and went on to become a massive commercial success. Impressed with her performance and looks, she was paired with ‘Natural Star’ Nani in her next venture, Hi Nanna (2023). Releasing in December 2023, the romantic drama was declared a ‘Super Hit’ at the box office. On top of that, the film’s Hindi-dubbed version, ‘Hi Pappa’, has witnessed record viewership on Netflix.
Scoring back-to-back hits, Thakur is enjoying the prime phase of her career so far. However, it looks like the Almighty has bigger plans for her. She’s all set for a grand debut in Tamil cinema in a film produced by Kamal Hassan. Starring Simbu (STR), this high-budget flick is directed by newcomer Desingh Periyasamy. In addition to this, she’s roped in to play Shivakarthikeyan’s love interest in an action drama film helmed by ace director A. R. Murugadoss.
Needless to say, she is also the female lead in Vijay Devarakonda’s Family Star, directed by Parasuram Petla. With some of the year’s biggest ventures in her kitty, Thakur is currently in an envious position in South cinema. It should be seen how these projects turn out at the ticket window.
