2018 Movie the latest Malayalam film was a surprise hit at the box office, and it even went on to become the highest grosser of Mollywood and achieved the industry hit status. After such big success, it got released in other languages as well. However, excluding Telugu language, it became a big failure in other markets and even in Telugu also the film did not create any magic like Kantara and ended up with just good numbers. 2018 movie was released on OTT recently, and it is getting mixed response from the other language audiences.
After releasing in OTT the film, 2018 is receiving mixed response as many of the audience felt that the movie is not on par with the unanimous talk it got during the theatrical release, and they are telling it’s just a decent movie and a few sections of people feel the movie is boring too. The movie did not get the unanimous response like Kantara and a few netizens are stating that the content of the film is limited to only the Malayalam audience.
However, it should be noted that the 2018 movie is not a film which has a larger than life character like the KGF Series, nor it has big action sequences like the mighty RRR. Also, comparing the film, 2018 with Kantara is also not right because the latter has full of mass elements mixed with a fantasy touch. The 2018 movie is a survival thriller based on real life events, and it will have the right impact only in the theaters due to the technical excellence like VFX and background score, which did not have the same impact in the OTT viewing.
The film features a massive ensemble cast comprising Tovino Thomas, Indrans, Kunchacko Boban, Aparna Balamurali, Vineeth Sreenivasan, Asif Ali, Lal, and Narain among others. Jude Anthony Joseph directed this film, which was well appreciated for its thrilling elements and natural depiction of the 2018 floods.
