Ravi Teja’s Mass Jathara is the latest entertainer from Ravi Teja, directed by Bhanu Bhogavarapu, the debutant director, and it also stars Sree Leela as the lead actress, with Bheems composing the music. The film received an average response for its premieres last night and let’s check how well it entertains audiences in our review.

Story:

Laxman Bheri (Ravi Teja) works as a railway policeman. While serving in Warangal, he beats up a minister’s son and gets transferred to a remote village called Adavivaram in the Alluri district. The entire area is controlled by Shivudu (Naveen Chandra), who grows cannabis with local farmers and smuggles it to Calcutta. The rest of the story is about how Laxman Bheri fights against Shivudu’s illegal activities.

Performances:

Ravi Teja fits well in the role of Laxman Bheri. His style and energy throughout the film are enjoyable. Sreeleela’s role, however, is underwritten; she is once again limited to being a glamor doll in the songs.

Naveen Chandra performs well as the villain Shivudu, but his intensity fades in the second half. Rajendra Prasad provides a few laughs, while Hyper Aadi, VTV Ganesh, Ajay Ghosh, Murali Sharma, Navya Swamy, and Samudrakani have limited roles.

Analysis:

Debut director Bhanu Bhogavarapu has packed Mass Jathara with all the typical commercial film elements, a powerful hero introduction, romantic songs/dance numbers, punch dialogues, and a ruthless villain who meets his end at the hands of the hero.

From start to finish, Mass Jathara follows the regular mass-movie formula. What works well are the hero’s presentation, the well-staged action sequences, and a few strong scenes between the hero and the villain.

However, the narration is quite routine and offers no surprises. The first half starts on a good note but loses momentum during the comedy and love scenes. The interval action episode is engaging and raises expectations for the second half.

The second half has its moments, especially the forest fight and the following dinner scene, which are well-executed. But the pace drops again due to unnecessary filler scenes. The pre-climax fails to create an emotional impact, though the climax works well for mass audiences.

Director Bhanu Bhogavarapu presents Ravi Teja in an impressive manner and handles some key moments effectively. Still, a tighter screenplay and more concentration on the Hero-Villain Characters and their conflict could have made the film much better.

Positives:

  • Ravi Teja’s Screen Presence
  • Action Sequences
  • A Few Crucial Scenes/Dialogues

Negatives:

  • Predictable Narration
  • Unnecessary/Weak Comedy Scenes
  • Not So Great Handling of the Hero-Villain Characters
  • Loud Background Score and Weak Songs

Mass Jathara Review and Verdict:

Overall, Mass Jathara is yet another disappointment from Ravi Teja. Even if you go in with low expectations, the film fails to satisfy. For mass fans and Ravi Teja fans, it might be an average watch for its action episodes.
