Mani Ratnam, an award-winning Indian Filmmaker, worked as a director, producer, and writer for various films across major Indian languages. Mani Ratnam directed his Telugu debut “Geetanjali” staring Nagarjuna and Girija in lead roles. This film remained as one of the cult classics of Tollywood and it’s the only film directed by Mani Ratnam in Telugu. Even irrespective of actors, Mani Ratnam’s films like Anjali, Dalapathy, Roja, Bombay, Sakhi witnessed a huge reception from the Telugu audience. In 2002, the Indian government honored with “Padma Shri”.
His awards list includes 6 National Film Awards, 10 Filmfare Awards, and a Nandi Award.

Once in an interview, Mani Ratnam shared that, “Ponniyin Selvan” was his dream project. Ponniyin Selvan is a historic novel written by Kalki Krishnamurthy. This project is now on sets, completed 2 schedules of its shooting but halted due to COVID-19. Mani Ratnam is planning to release the film in 2 parts. This project features a star cast with Chiyaan Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Vikram Prabhu, Aishwarya Rai, Tisha, Aditi Rao Hydari, and many other popular actors in supporting roles. A.R.Rahman is setting tunes and bankrolled by Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions.

According to the recent reports, Mani Ratnam is to join his hands with Amazon Prime Video for a web-series. This series may contain 9 episodes of Indian Mythology, each episode will be directed by a different director under the Supervision of Mani Ratnam. Some directors like Gautham Menon, Karthick Naren, and Bejoy Nambiar were already approached and the film-makers are in search of other directors. Further details are yet to be confirmed.
