Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan is going great guns at the box office and has become the latest entrant into the Rs 400 crore club. This film was the ace director’s dream project and with it doing great commercially and critically, he’s back in form.
Ponniyin Selvan-1 is based on Kalki’s novel of the same name. The film was released late last month in five languages — Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada. This historical action drama stars Karthi, Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Trisha, and others.
With Ponniyin Selvan, Maniratnam has delivered an industry hit after years. Ponniyin Selvan 2 is set to release next summer. After the sequel project, he will be working with superstar Rajinikanth.
The much-celebrated combination of Kollywood will be joining hands after 31 years. Rajinikanth and Mani Ratnam last collaborated on the blockbuster Thalapathy in 1991. This upcoming monumental project will be produced by Lyca Productions. Rajinikanth has signed a 2 Movie deal with Lyca and he is currently working with Nelson for Jailer.
After this, he will start his first film with Lyca under Cibil Chakravarty’s direction. The second film would be then directed by Mani Ratnam.
