Movie: Manchi Rojuluochaie
Rating: 2/5
Cast: Santosh Shoban, Mehreen Pirzada, Ajay Ghosh
Director: Maruthi
Produced By: SKN & V Celluloid
Release Date: 4th November

Director Maruthi is returning to direction after a gap of two years with Manchi Rojuluochaie. His last couple of films Prathi Raoju Pandage and Shailaja Reddy Alludu failed to create a mark at the box office. Hence, this time he has returned to his strong point- a small-budget comedy entertainer. The movie was made on a shoestring budget and the shoot was completed in just over a month. Did the return to his comfort zone work out for Maruthi? Let’s find out

Story: Santosh (Santosh Shoban) is in a relationship with Paddu (Mehreen) for quite some time. This relationship has been going on without the knowledge of either families. The couple decides to take their relationship one step ahead. However, there is a catch. Paddu’s father Gopalam (Ajay Ghosh) is a timid man with a weak heart. Can he take the news of his daughter’s relationship? How the couple reacts and how Santosh takes the matter to the next level is the crux of the plot.

Performance: Santosh Shoban is playing the mainstream commercial hero for the first time in his career. He dances, romances and fights just as per requirement. However, there is not much scope for the actor in this story. Mehreen has no scope for performances either and has no standing of her own in the film. She is there just to fulfill the lead actress part. The film is essentially driven by Ajay Ghosh and a few comic characters such as Praveen, Vennela Kishore, etc. Ajay Ghosh has got a different and major character for the first time and does total justice to it.

Analysis: Manchi Rojuluochaie is a typical Maruthi template movie. You know what’s going to happen and how the movie will end. What remains to be seen is how he handles the multiple comedy characters and Maruthi does a half-baked job at it. Apart from a few comic punches and Ajay Ghosh’s performance, nothing really works for the film. The movie has a decent message that could have been delivered in a better way without all the on-screen chaos.

Plus Points:

Ajay Ghosh’s performance

Few comedy scenes

Minus Points:

Botched screenplay

Lead actor’s chemistry

Second half

Verdict: Manchi Rojuluochaie is more of an OTT film. The theatrical release for this project is only going to cause an extra burden to the makers. Having said that, some more finesse and better handling of the subject would have definitely made the movie more enjoyable.
