Riteish Deshmukh’s directorial debut Ved has had a smashing start at the box office. The Marathi film has collected over Rs 10 crore in its opening weekend, which is one of the highest-ever numbers covered by a film in the language in its first three days. The film further marks the return of Riteish’s wife, actress Genelia D’Souza.

Ved is a romantic drama, which further stars Ashok Saraf, Jiya Shankar, and Rahul Dev among others. They dropped the film on December 30. The film is Genelia’s first film as an actress in Marathi and has also been produced by her.

The film is the remake of the 2019 Telugu hit Majili, which marked Naga Chaitanya and Samantha Ruth Prabhu in lead.

Ved’s three-day total of Rs 10 crore is the fourth biggest of any Marathi film, behind Sairat, Timepass 2, and Riteish Deshmukh’s own film Lai Bhaari. Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh also tweeted about the film’s great box office performance, calling its success ‘remarkable’.

Riteish and Genelia have obtained the rights of Majili and remade in Marathi language. Before the release looking at the promo of a song, netizens trolled that they’re not doing justice to the original, but now it looks like Riteish Deshmukh had got it right in getting things done.
