China has mostly been quite a profitable market for Indian films. Vijay Sethupathi’s Maharaja has now been released there hoping to create history. Many North Indian films, in particular, have succeeded in China. Surprisingly, South Indian films, including Baahubali2, have failed to work in China.
Baahubali 2 collected around $12M in China which is good but pretty low if we consider the release costs and the opening it received. The film opened pretty well but couldn’t sustain that momentum.
Finally, Vijay Sethupathi’s Maharaja has managed to crack the Chinese market and end the drought for South Indian films. The film has posted bigger numbers in 2nd weekend than 1st weekend and is looking forward to a solid run at the Box office. Here’s the detailed breakup of 10 days of collections.
Maharaja 10 Days China gross collection is 64.05 Cr ( $7.64 M )
1st weekend : 40.80 Cr | $4.82 M |
Day 8: 5.40 Cr | $640 K |
Day 9: 10.75 Cr | $1.27 M |
Day 10 : 7.10 Cr | $840 K | +
At this trend, the film will easily reach $20M and even more in full run and will cross Baahubali 2 by next weekend.
