Madharaasi, the action thriller, features Sivakarthikeyan in a powerful lead role. Following his critically acclaimed performance in last year’s hit Amaran, the actor teamed up with renowned director AR Murugadoss for the first time with this film.
Despite the combination, the film did not get the deserved hype and had very poor advance ticket sales. Now, let us dive into our review to find out to know ARM – SK duo is able to surprise us with the content.
Story:
A large syndicate looks to spread gun culture in Tamil Nadu, teaming up with two crooks, Virat and Chirag. Premnath leads the NIA to stop them, but he stumbles along the way. During this time, he crosses paths with Raghu Ram, who’s contemplating suicide over a love failure, and sees an opportunity to involve him in his quest. What happens next is all about Raghu getting his love back and ensuring that guns are out of his state.
Performances:
Sivakarthikeyan’s character is intriguing, and he puts in a solid effort to make everything click, even when the story has its flaws. Rukmini Vasanth shines in some emotional moments but does not get much chance to show her skills in other parts. Vidyut Jammwal, Biju Menonanth, Shabeer Kallarakkal, and the gang fit perfectly into their parts.
Analysis:
AR Murugadoss, famous for hits like Ghajini, Thuppaki and Katthhi, is back with Madharaasi after the failure of Sikandar. The film centers on this fascinating blend of a love story and a looming national threat.
If only the screenplay had been spot-on, Madharaasi could have been an unforgettable movie. But Murugadoss does not rise to the occasion and shines only in certain areas. The initial episode is fine, but the film becomes more engaging when they introduce the hero and touch on his mental health issues.
The romance between the leads feels flat, plus there are just too many songs in the first half. It’s only around the midpoint that the movie gains traction and gets hopes up for the latter part.
Madharaasi’s second half improves a lot once the hero faces some personal stakes. Some fights, especially the climax and important moments, totally work for the film. However, the parts with NIA and the villains have weak compared to what they should be.
The action blocks looked great, but they would have been even better if the fight between the villains and Hero was more arresting. The climax gives an extended feeling.
Positives:
- Hero’s Characterization
- Action Episodes
- Few Gripping Moments In The Second Half
Negatives:
- Weak Love Track In The First Half
- Dragged Scenes
- Weak Game Between The Hero And Villains
- Anirudh’s Songs And Background Score
Madharaasi Movie Review and Verdict:
Madharaasi delivers excitement here and there, but not consistently. Sivakarthikeyan shines with his character and performance, plus there are some engaging moments and well-executed action scenes. But the slow storytelling and lackluster parts turn this movie into just an average experience.
