Kollywood Buzz: Suriya And Shankar Joining Hands For A 1000 Crores Budget Film; Never Before In Indian Cinema

There is a strong buzz among the Kollywood circles regarding a possible massive collaboration between Suriya and director Shankar. The duo will reportedly be handling the adaptation of one of the most iconic novels in Tamil history, titled Velpari.

We have also recently seen Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan, which is an adaptation of Kalki’s novel Ponniyin Selvan. Along the same lines, Velpari is an iconic novel that is celebrated to this day. In fact, Velpari seems to have a stronger fanbase as compared to Ponniyin Selvan.

Velpari is set in the Sangam era and tells us the story of Velpari, who was a ruler of the Velir lineage. Velpari ruled Parambu Nadu and other surrounding regions in ancient Tamilakam. The novel has been written by academy award-winning writer Su Venkatesan. It is a celebrated subject and is very close to the hearts of Tamilians also.

According to trade circles, Suriya and Shankar will collaborate on this period drama. The film will need a lot of star cast as the novel is filled with a wide variety of superbly written characters. Just like Ponniyin Selvan, the world of Velpari also has a lot of significant female characters that have a lot of importance in the story. The budget of the film is supposedly 1000 crores which is the highest ever for any Indian film. Shankar has already started scouting for the cast and crew.
