Dulquer Salmaan’s ambitious pan-India project King of Kotha was released on August 24th amidst massive hype. Everyone expected the film to create big records at the box office. However, the film received negative response from the audiences and critics as well. After getting excellent nos on day 1, King Of Kotha saw a massive drop in its numbers. After getting a good opening, the film dropped big because of below par reviews and word of mouth from the audiences. The movie did not even pick up during the Onam festival. King Of Kotha has collected 13.5Cr+ gross in Kerala and in overseas it has collected 14.5Cr and from other territories TN, Karnataka, Telugu states the gross will be around 7Cr. Overall, the movie has collected 35Cr worldwide gross in its 1st week.
The pan-India project was released in all South Indian languages and Hindi. The gangster drama is directed by debutant Abhilash Joshiy and produced by ZEE Studios and Dulquer Salmaan’s home production Wayfarer Films. King Of Kotha is a gangster drama with a perfect blend of emotions, romance, and comedy.
Apart from Dulquer, the film also stars Dancing Rose (Sarpatta Parambarai fame), Prasanna, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Nyla Usha, Chemban Vinod, Gokul Suresh, Shammi Thilakan, Shanthi Krishna, Vada Chennai Saran, and Anikha Surendran. Set in the 1990s, in a fictional town named Kotha, the film is a tale of revenge and redemption.
