Three major Kollywood films — Jana Nayagan, Kara, and Karuppu — are targeting the same post-Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections release window, setting up a major box office clash.

Jana Nayagan Censor Screening Delayed

The re-certification screening of Jana Nayagan was originally scheduled for March 9. However, the screening was postponed after a CBFC member fell ill. The new screening date is now March 17.

The makers plan to secure the censor certificate this month. Once the certification is approved, the team will restart pending business deals and finalize theater agreements.

Three Big Films Target the Same Window

The producers of Jana Nayagan want to release the film immediately after the Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections. However, two other big films are also targeting the same period.

Dhanush’s Kara Announces April 30 Release

Kara, starring Dhanush and directed by Vignesh Raja, has officially locked April 30 as its theatrical release date. This makes it one of the first major releases after the election period.

Karuppu Targets May 1 Release

Director RJ Balaji confirmed that his upcoming film Karuppu, starring Suriya, is aiming for a May 1 release. This decision puts the film in direct competition with both Kara and Jana Nayagan.

With three big films aiming for the same narrow window, Kollywood audiences can expect an intense box office battle in early May.
