Jailer 2 has set a new all-time record for Kollywood on BookMyShow. On its opening day itself, the Rajinikanth film sold more than 84,000 tickets in a single hour(at 9pm) on the platform, breaking the record held by Vijay’s Leo, which had peaked at over 82,000 tickets per hour.
Jailer 2 vs Leo: Peak Hourly Ticket Sales on BookMyShow
- Jailer 2: 84K+ (new record)
- Leo: 82K+ (previous record)
The Record Came From Word of Mouth
What makes this record special is when it happened. Jailer 2’s pre-release bookings were not at the record level many had expected. But once the first shows ended and the talk turned positive, ticket sales on BookMyShow shot up through the day.
Hourly ticket sales are one of the clearest signs of how fast word of mouth is spreading. For a film to set an all-time Kollywood record on its very first day, audiences have to be booking in huge numbers right after hearing about the film from those who have already watched it.
100K Per Hour This Weekend?
The bigger number may still be ahead. With the positive talk spreading and the Dasara holidays starting, Jailer 2 is now heading towards 100,000+ tickets per hour on BookMyShow this weekend. Very few Indian films have reached that level, and doing it would put Jailer 2 in elite company.
Records Across the Board
The BookMyShow record adds to a big opening day for Jailer 2. The film is setting all-time Kollywood opening records in Kerala, where it has gone past Leo’s mark with ₹12.5 Cr+, and in Karnataka, where it has crossed the previous best of around ₹14 Cr. Collections are also growing show by show across India and overseas.
After a quiet pre-release campaign, Jailer 2 is now following the same path as the first Jailer: a modest start on hype, followed by an explosion driven by word of mouth.
Jailer 2 is directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and produced by Sun Pictures, with Rajinikanth returning as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian and music by Anirudh Ravichander.
