Jailer 2 has made history. With today’s collections, the Rajinikanth film has crossed the ₹800 Cr gross mark worldwide, becoming the first film in Kollywood history to do so.
Jailer 2 Worldwide Box Office (Gross)
- India: ₹525 Cr+
- Overseas: Close to ₹275 Cr
- Worldwide Total: ₹800 Cr
A First for Tamil Cinema
No Tamil film had come close to this number before. Jailer 2 was already the first Kollywood film to cross ₹700 Cr worldwide, and it has now set another benchmark that could stand for a long time.
The film has also crossed the ₹525 Cr mark in India, adding to its record as the No.1 Tamil film in India. Overseas collections are closing in on ₹275 Cr.
A Run of Records
The ₹800 Cr milestone caps an incredible run for Jailer 2. Within the last few days alone, the film has:
- Become the No.1 Tamil film in India, crossing 2.0
- Crossed ₹200 Cr gross in Tamil Nadu, a first for a Rajinikanth film
- Become the highest-grossing Tamil film in Malaysia
Next Target: ₹850 Cr
The question now is how close Jailer 2 can get to ₹850 Cr. The Diwali festival this weekend gives the film one more big holiday window, which should help it add a good amount to its total.
Screen Count Challenge
But the road ahead won’t be easy. Several new films are releasing this week, including Ramayana, Scene and a Nayanthara film. With these releases taking up screens, Jailer 2’s screen count will drop, which could slow down its run.
How well the film holds through the Diwali weekend, despite fewer screens, will decide its final number.
At 76, Rajinikanth has once again delivered the biggest box office run in Tamil cinema history, and the record books will now be measured against Jailer 2.
