Jailer 2 has broken one of the toughest records in South Indian cinema. Rajinikanth’s film has beaten Baahubali 2 in Kerala to become the state’s highest-grossing non-Malayalam film.
A Record That Stood for 9 Years
Baahubali 2 released in 2017 and collected over ₹72 Cr gross in Kerala. At the time, it became the second-biggest grosser ever in the state, behind only Mohanlal’s Pulimurugan, and the biggest film ever from outside Malayalam cinema.
That record stood for nine long years.
Even the Biggest Couldn’t Touch It
Some of the biggest pan-India films of recent years tried and failed to beat Baahubali 2 in Kerala. KGF: Chapter 2, Jailer and Leo all had huge runs in the state, but none of them could cross its mark.
Jailer 2 Does It in 13 Days
Jailer 2 has now collected ₹72.5 Cr gross in Kerala in just 13 days, finally going past Baahubali 2.
Biggest Non-Malayalam Grossers in Kerala
- Jailer 2: ₹72.5 Cr (13 days, running)
- Baahubali 2: ₹72 Cr+
Heading for ₹80 Cr
Jailer 2 isn’t slowing down in Kerala. The film is expected to end its run in the ₹80 Cr range in the state, setting a new benchmark that could stand for a long time.
Earlier in its run, Jailer 2 had already beaten Leo to become the biggest Tamil grosser ever in Kerala. Now it has gone one step further and become the biggest non-Malayalam film of all time there.
₹740 Cr Worldwide
Worldwide, Jailer 2 has collected around ₹740 Cr gross in 13 days and is still doing great business. As Kollywood’s all-time industry hit, the film is now racing towards the ₹800 Cr mark.
