Huge blocker for AP Government’s online ticketing portal

Andhra Pradesh Government’s decision to come up with its own online ticketing portal is into its initial stages. The plan, however, might run into an unexpected roadblock. Reportedly, the cost of setting up an online ticketing portal, establishing and maintaining infrastructure and other assets run into about Rs 1000 crores.

Players like Book My Show and Just Tickets among others have already been in the field for a while. A large number of exhibitors have entered into an agreement with these private portals long back.

If the government goes ahead as per its original plan, then this online ticketing portal company’s agreement with the theatres would immediately come to an end. The sudden termination of the contract would bring in losses running into crores for the private online players. These portals would have no choice but to take legal action against the exhibitors.

Most of the exhibitors have a 5-year agreement with private portals by charging Rs 5 lacs to Rs 35 lacs. This is a solid deal for the exhibitors and many are not accepting to put their theaters in AP ticketing Portal

These unplanned contingencies are now fast becoming a massive roadblock in the government’s plan. It needs to be seen how they counter it.
