Housefull 5 Movie Review: Has Its Moments Of Laughs

Director Tarun Mansukhani, writer Farhad Samji, and Sajid Nadiadwala tried to balance between comedy and the thrill of a whodunit in the film, Housefull 5. The way the film starts is impressive, as it gets to the point without wasting much time. The references to Akshay's character from the old Housefull movies work well, and though there is a feeling of not much happening in the middle parts, the first half somehow holds the attention.

Housefull 5 has generated significant excitement with its lively music and hilarious trailer. It features a remarkable cast that includes Akshay, Riteish Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan, Nargis Fakhri, Jacqueline Fernandez, Sonam Bajwa, Soundarya Sharma in the lead roles along with other seniors. Let’s see how this entertainer has been shaped up in our review.

Story:

Millionaire Ranjit Dobriyal (Ranjeet) passes away just before his 100th birthday while on his luxurious cruise. He names his successor, Jolly, and three candidates enter: Julius (Akshay Kumar), Jalbhushan (Abhishek Bachchan), and Jallabuddin (Riteish Deshmukh). As they search for the true Jolly, a violent murder occurs, leaving over a dozen suspects. The remainder of the story revolves around uncovering the real Jolly and identifying the murderer.

Performances:

Akshay Kumar returns to his beloved comedy genre, delivering some hilarious scenes with his dialogue. Riteish Deshmukh adds punchlines, and his dialogue delivery enhances various moments.

Abhishek Bachchan is somewhat sidelined, but his character gains significance towards the climax. Sonam Bajwa, Jacqueline Fernandez, Nargis Fakhri, and Soundarya Sharma are eye candy, looking stunning, but their roles are mainly to add glamour to the film.

Chitrangda Singh, Dino Morea, Fardeen Khan, Nikitan Dheer, and Shreyas Talpade are not fully utilized, while Sanjay Dutt and Jackie Shroff also do not leave a strong impression. Nana Patekar successfully brings the final scenes to life with his humor.

Analysis:

Director Tarun Mansukhani, writer Farhad Samji, and Sajid Nadiadwala tried to balance between comedy and the thrill of a whodunit in the film, Housefull 5. The way the film starts is impressive, as it gets to the point without wasting much time.

The references to Akshay’s character from the old Housefull movies work well, and though there is a feeling of not much happening in the middle parts, the first half somehow holds the attention.

But the humor weakens in the second half, and the movie feels dragged until it gains momentum near the climax. Many jokes are sexist and filled with innuendos. Women, particularly Soundarya Sharma’s character, are objectified in a way that isn’t humorous.

It is not like someone will expect a social message from a comedy franchise movie, but the jokes/humor could have been more enjoyable if the director used the conflicts and the chaos between the characters rather than taking the easy route of double-meaning jokes.

Positives:

  • Basic Plot
  • A Few Hilarious Moments in the First Half
  • Climax

Negatives:

  • Excessive Usage of Double-Meaning Jokes
  • Dragged Second Half
  • Huge Starcast Not Utilized Properly

Housefull 5 Movie Review and Verdict:

Housefull 5 has its moments of laughs, but the film gets dragged in the second half for the most part and impresses only at the climax. The huge star cast and franchise factor can help the movie at the box office.
