Yatra and the recently released Yatra 2 were not regular commercial films. They were made with a specific agenda and that too with a target of upcoming AP Assembly Elections. These movies were aimed to get mileage for their YSRCP through the powerful platform of movies. This practice is not just limited to one part or just Telugu states, but every party has been doing this to attract audiences. Such movies will be indirectly supported by political leaders.
In several cases, the political parties are directly involved in the movie financing while in other cases, they play a more indirect role. Coming to Yatra, the first part was a success when it was released in the run-up to the 2024 elections. The film also delivered good numbers by collecting more than 10Cr share. Coming to Yatra 2 the budget is said to be way more than part 1 but collections are not even 1/3rd of part 1.
Even after the debacle of the movie, director Mahi Raghav seems to have benefitted from this project. According to media reports, director the director had earlier written a letter to the government to grant some land in Horsley Hills to construct a mini studio. The AP government has reportedly granted 2 Acres of land to Maha Raghav for the studio.
