Godfather Has Poor Second Weekend At Box Office; Back To Back Failures For Chiranjeevi

Chiranjeevi’s Godfather was released in theatres on 5th October and opened to average opening weekend collections. Even though the reviews were largely positive, the word of mouth did not particularly have a huge impact on the movie.

After the opening weekend, the film completely crashed on the weekdays. Everyone expected that it will pick up its pace over the weekend as no movies are releasing but Kantara has emerged as a major problem for the Godfather makers.

The Telugu version of Kantara is posting more numbers than Godfather and is dominating the Indian box office. Godfather has collected around 55 crores as of now but the theatrical rights are valued at 80 crores. This means that Godfather will be counted as a loss venture for Chiranjeevi unless a great miracle takes place.

After the failure of Acharya earlier in the year, this is Chiranjeevi’s second poor outing at the box office. While Acharya was completely dismissed, Godfather has suffered even with positive talk. This is an extremely worrying sign for Chiranjeevi and he will need to majorly rethink his position in the industry.
