Rajahmundry’s movie lovers could soon get a big-screen upgrade. The city’s popular Rambha, Urvashi and Menaka theatre complex is reportedly set to be taken over by Allu Aravind’s Geetha Arts and Geetha Distributions on a 13-year lease.
And one of its screens is set to be turned into a premium EPIQ screen.
What’s Planned
- 13-year lease by Geetha Arts and Geetha Distributions
- Full renovation with modern facilities
- One screen in the EPIQ premium format
- Two screens in standard format
A Landmark Gets a Makeover
The Rambha, Urvashi and Menaka complex is one of the best-known theatre complexes in Rajahmundry and has been a favourite spot for moviegoers in the Godavari region for years.
With the planned renovation, the complex is expected to get modern seating, sound and projection, bringing a multiplex-style experience to a well-loved single-screen landmark.
What Is EPIQ?
EPIQ is a premium large format developed by Qube Cinema. It offers a giant screen, high-quality projection and immersive sound, built for big-ticket films that need to be seen on the biggest screen possible.
The format first made headlines in Andhra Pradesh with V Epiq in Sullurpeta, which opened in 2019 with Prabhas’ Saaho and was billed as South Asia’s largest screen at the time.
A Big Win for Rajahmundry
Premium formats like IMAX, Dolby Cinema and EPIQ have mostly been limited to big metros like Hyderabad and Chennai. An EPIQ screen in Rajahmundry would give audiences in the Godavari districts a premium big-screen option closer to home.
With big films like Ramayana, Varanasi and Fauzi lined up for the coming months, the timing couldn’t be better.
Geetha Arts Expands Into Exhibition
The move also marks a bigger push by Geetha Arts into film exhibition. Known as one of Telugu cinema’s leading production and distribution houses, the banner taking over a theatre complex shows its growing interest in owning the screens where films are shown.
